Enabling research at the University of Cincinnati Next Mobility Lab
Students and faculty at the University of Cincinnati’s Next Mobility Lab are working across disciplines and with other researchers beyond the institution’s corridors to develop the next generation of automated and connected vehicles .

Working together under the umbrella of the Greater Cincinnati Advanced Transportation Collaborative, they rely on a critical tool supplied by AutonomouStuff: a small fleet of Lexus RX450h Automated Research Development Platforms.

They use the platforms to:
  • test autonomy software stack algorithms.
  • deploy advanced technology to communicate with other automated vehicles and infrastructure.
  • gather data to help predict the behavior of other drivers in simulated environments.

Service with precision: 3D scanner
With the acquisition of a new tool, AutonomouStuff is looking to expand its service offerings in the most precise way possible for our customers.

The 3D scanner made by Hexagon that recently arrived at our headquarters is a portable tool capable of creating three-dimensional models of everything from components to entire vehicles — with sub-millimeter measurement precision .

Whether on the road or in the shop, this new tool will cut down on development time for custom jobs and provide our clients with a valuable digital blueprint to continue research and development.
These are just some of the possibilities:

  • Custom integration work can be completed more quickly and efficiently with precise digital modeling work completed up front.
  • Extremely accurate digitized renderings can be made on site with customers to create harnesses and other components with a perfect fit.
  • Clients can receive scalable digital models of entire platforms or individual parts, specific to the order they are receiving no matter how customized.

New product: NovAtel GNSS enclossures
The introduction of new NovAtel GNSS receivers with an improved IMU offering more precise localization during satellite outages has expanded our roster of NovAtel Positioning Kits.

The new kits feature the upgraded PwrPak7-E2 and updated dual-antenna PwrPak7D-E2 enclosures. Both versions integrate the advanced Epson G370 IMU and include advanced interference detection and mitigation features. Users can capture data up to five days with 16GB of onboard storage.
Key features of the new enclosures include:

  • PwrPak7-E2: single-antenna connection with OEM7700 board and Epson G370N IMU
  • PwrPak7D-E2: Dual-antenna connection with heading information, OEM7720 board and Epson G370N IMU.
  • Epson G370N IMU improves performance with 200Hz INS data rate and greater gyroscope dynamic range.

Check out our NovAtel Positioning Kits page to learn more about the enclosures and how they fit every GNSS need.

Meet the team: Paul Thurman
The employees at AutonomouStuff come from a rich array of backgrounds. Paul Thurman joined the crew this year after working more than 30 years on massive pieces of complex machinery: newspaper presses. For him, working amidst next-generation technology has been an inspiration.

"I remember the days when we only had one phone in the house, so to me, smart phone technology is like Star Trek coming to life , " Paul said. "Every day at AutonomouStuff, I see something new and exciting. It's interesting, and, to be honest, it's really inspiring ."

We love to hear how the work we do impacts people today, while we keep our focus on the future or mobility!

Giving back: Movember style
Team AutonoMustache turned out in style this Movember to support men's health by raising money — and stubble.

Alongside the luxurious upper lips , we hosted in-house breakfasts, chili and soup cook-offs and the Movember AS Walk.

In conjunction with the Movember festivities, we also donated winter coats to the Peoria Dream Center's annual collection drive.
