University of North Texas: Expanding CAV capabilities
Researchers at the University of North Texas are investigating novel ways to expand the capabilities of sensor-based perception systems fundamental to autonomous vehicle operation — with an AutonomouStuff Automated Research Development Platform at the heart of concepts that have vast implications for next-generation mobility .

Assistant Professor Qing Yang in the Department of Computer Science and Engineering and his colleagues are exploring how connected autonomous vehicle (CAV) technology can overcome the limitations inherent to single-vehicle perception systems operating independently.

  • publishing research using data generated from the sensors and communication equipment.
  • procuring grants to further research into CAV technology.

" Without AutonomousStuff’s support, we could not start up our research so quickly. I am positive that the research platform we got from AS has placed us in a unique position," Yang said. "We have witnessed a positive impact of the platform on our proposals and research projects."

Read our case study on the University of North Texas research to learn more and access papers they have published using the automated platform.

Highlight: Cohda Wireless MK5 OBU
Cohda’s fifth-generation On-Board Unit (OBU), the MK5 is a small, low-cost, rugged module that can be retrofitted to vehicles for aftermarket deployment or field trials of CAV technology. The MK5 can also serve as a design reference for automotive production, and is part of AutonomouStuff's CARMA Kit .

The MK5 exchanges data at high speeds over extended distances, providing class-leading reaction times to potential hazards and safety-critical scenarios.

Key features include:
  • Dual IEEE 802.11p radio
  • GNSS with lane-level accuracy
  • Integrated security
  • Supports DSRC (IEEE802.11p), Ethernet 100 Base-T

Check out all the specs on our Cohda Wireless MK5 OBU page . And be sure to tune in for a webinar we are hosting with Chief Technical Officer Paul Alexander live in the North American market on Sept. 1 .

Events
Upcoming webinar: Open Autonomy Pilot
The Open Autonomy Pilot at AutonomouStuff launched in the summer of 2019 in order to create an optimal research platform for developers driving the next generation of autonomous vehicle technology,

Vice President of Products and Services John Buszek will present in a free webinar at 1 p.m. CDT Aug. 13 on how OAP has evolved and what capabilities have expanded in our state-of-the-art platforms as a result.

By integrating various autonomous driving software stacks — each with different parameters for tailored approaches to applications — AutonomouStuff has created an ideal space for development, including a simulated environment for a complete workflow.

Registration is now open for this free webinar, which will include a question-and-answer session.
Upcoming webinar: Putting the C in CAV
Mark the calendar for 2:30 p.m. CDT Sept. 1 to discover how Connected Autonomous Vehicle (CAV) technology is advancing and the potential it holds.

We're teaming up with CAV technology leader Cohda Wireless to present "Putting the C in CAV" — a free webinar exploring V2X applications.

Chief Technical Officer Paul Alexander will discuss the implications and applications of this technology as it continues to evolve and offer insight into ongoing Cohda development and industry standards.

Registration is now open for the live webinar in the North American market featuring a question and answer session and an official webcast of the original material for business-hours viewing in European, Asian and Australian markets.
Webinars on demand: Qumulo and Velodyne
We hosted a webinar and appeared in one in July — both with key partners who are major forces shaping the autonomous ecosystem.

Molly Presley from Qumulo joined us for a presentation on "The Unified Data Platform for Machine Learning and High Capacity Storage" after the hybrid cloud storage system leader enhanced their product line with streamlined access for Amazon's Web Services. The full webinar is available for replay at any time on AutonomouStuff's YouTube channel .

And AutonomouStuff founder Bobby Hambrick and VP John Buszek joined lidar leader Velodyne for live question and answer session on the latest trends in sensors and autonomous vehicle development. That episode of Velodyne's webinar series also is available for on-demand viewing right here .
