Dear Camp Families,

After nearly 10 months of planning, we are counting down the hours until we officially open our gates at 1 pm on Sunday for the start of the 2019 camp season. It's an honor to have this opportunity to provide your child with an outstanding camp experience. We realize the trust that you have placed in us and our staff to provide a safe, nurturing and accepting environment for your child. Our dedicated counselors, specialists, and support staff also understand the importance and significance of their role in every camper's life. That's why staff training lasts 2 weeks so everyone has time to participate in workshops and sessions on topics including ropes course training, lifeguard training, boat driver training, behavior management, safety and supervision, and emergency preparedness.

If you are driving your child to camp on Sunday, we open the gate at 1 pm. You can arrive any time between 1 and 2 pm. To prepare you for arrival day on Sunday, we've made this handy guide so you and your child know what to expect. We will also have copies available at check-in.

There are a number of important reminders below, so please read through the entire email. Your child's cabin assignment is also included in this email .

We are looking forward to seeing everyone on Sunday. It's going to be the start of another memorable summer under the pines at Camp North Star.

Warm regards,

Brooke and Steven
Packing for camp
Here are a few last minute reminders as you finish packing those duffle bags.

• Pack a sleeping bag unless you are renting linens. Campers will have the opportunity to camp out each session. Campers who live in Havana, Rio, Monte Carlo and Las Vegas cabins will have an overnight trip each session and will need a sleeping bag for that trip .

• Bikinis are not permitted at camp or on trips. Tankinis are acceptable, however they must cover the midriff. We recommend that girls wear one-piece bathing suits. One-piece bathing suits must provide full coverage, including no deep plunging necklines, no backs that dip below the waist, and no exposed sides or midriffs. Boys must wear appropriate length swim trunks.

• Remember to bring a rain jacket and an extra pair of sneakers.

• Closed toe shoes must be worn at all camp activities outside of the waterfront.

• If your child has a baseball or softball glove, it is a good idea to pack it if they may participate in one of our baseball/softball classes. We will always have extras on hand as well.
Additional Options - Golf, Horseback Riding, Tennis & Basketball
It's not too late to register for our optional weekly programs in Golf, Tennis, and Horseback Riding. There's also limited spaces available for our Basketball Morning Intensive Program offered in Session 2 and 3. Use the Additional Options form in your CampMinder account to register for Golf and Horseback Riding. The basketball program has its own registration form in CampMinder.

Private Tennis Lessons with our tennis coaches are offered throughout the summer. Lessons are $40 per hour. You can register your child for as little as 1 lesson or as many as 12 via the Additional Options form.
Online Photo Gallery, Emails and Bunk Notes
Each day during the camp season, we upload hundreds of photos to our password protected photo gallery. It's easy and convenient to register.

•  Click here   to go to www.bunk1.com or search Bunk1 in the App Store/Google Play
• Click "New Here? Get Started?" or, if using the mobile app, click the "Sign Up" link.
• Complete the basic form. The invitation code is - MYSTAR
• You will be prompted to select a bundle to access your parent portal. There is an option with no cost.

By logging into the Bunk1 website or mobile app, you will be able to access the photo gallery as well as send Bunk Notes to your child and receive Bunk Replies from your child. You can find more information about the Bunk1 options in the Family Handbook.
Technology Free
We are proud to be a technology free camp. The main reason behind the policy is to allow campers to fully embrace the connections they make with other campers and promote socialization.

Cell phones are prohibited at camp.  The only electronics allowed are digital cameras and mp3 players that do not have video or internet capabilities. All other music players, smart watches, eBook readers, portable game devices, video players, tablets, laptops, etc., are prohibited.
Mail, E-mail and Packages
Campers love receiving letters, emails and packages. Nothing puts a smile on a camper's face like receiving mail.

Campers are asked to write home once a week while at camp. We request that all parents send stamped, home addressed envelopes with your child. Please send your child with ample postage to camp.

Send mail to -

Camper Name
Camp North Star
200 Verrill Road
Poland Spring, ME 04274

If you would like to send your child a package, only flat envelopes are permitted. Any packages or envelopes containing food will not be given to campers. If your child receives mail that does not meet our guidelines, you will receive an email that will include the return address of the sender and your child will receive that mail upon their departure.
Health and Lice Checks
Our Health Center Team will meet every child on arrival day for a health assessment and to confirm any medications taken on a daily basis.

On arrival day, we also partner with  Lice Clinics of America  to perform head checks of every camper. If any cases of nits/lice are found, treatment will begin at our Health Center right away.

If your child is found with lice upon arrival, you will be charged a one-time treatment fee of $300. Below follows North Star’s and LCA’s official camp treatment plan:
  • Step 1: A Lice Clinic of America technician will provide the Airalle treatment. The Airalle is a non-toxic medical device that kills lice at all stages of lice using heated air delivered at a constant flow rate and temperature.
  • Step 2: After the Airalle treatment, a technician performs a thorough comb out removing debris and dead lice.
  • Step 3:  A cosmetic grade silicone oil is applied to the head to assure that the most effective treatment has been administered.

Lice Clinics of America uses a process and treatment that is safe, non-toxic and done in one treatment.
