Answer: Java. The first public version of Java was released on May 23, 1995. The team working on Java were big coffee drinkers. They ended up choosing "Java" as a reference to Java coffee, a popular type of coffee from the Indonesian island of Java. They liked that the name "Java" evoked some of the essence they wanted for the language: dynamic, revolutionary, fun, and unique.
