City Manager’s Note

Hello Neighbors,

Happy New Year and welcome to the 1st edition of the Weekly for 2024.

We have jumped to over 580 subscribers of the Weekly since our last publication. Thank you, Dru Anderson, for helping get the word out to the LAH FireWise community.

And thank all of you for spreading the word by having your neighbors, LAH friends, and affiliates sign up. We share important news that your neighbors need to know.

Let's start with an update on construction projects at Town Hall including the battery backup system and the new Council Chamber Audio Video upgrade. Keep reading.

We have a few upcoming events, including Technology for Seniors, happening next Saturday and Game Night.

Last Friday, I found out about two residential burglaries that night after I posted the Weekly that will be described in the sheriff's report. We have nothing new to report since December.

Some new and encouraging news is that the Sheriff's Office has hired a Communications Manager who will help with messaging. We look forward to meeting them soon.

Hills 2000 will be hosting its State of the City Event on January 9th. For more information go to https://www.lahclub.com/

This is not to be confused with the State of the Cities Event held by the Chamber of Commerce for both the Los Altos Hills and Los Altos on May 3. For more information go to https://www.losaltoschamber.org/state-of-the-cities/

Don't forget we have several Council meetings this month.

January 11th- The Commissions and Committees will discuss their accomplishments and proposed goals for the next two years - Meeting starts at 6PM.

January 18th- Regular City Council Meeting - Meeting starts at 6PM.

January 23rd- Council goal-setting session - Meeting starts at 10AM.

We had a great turnout for the New Years Day Hike. Thank you to all who led and participated sponsored by the Pathway Committee led in part by Bob Elson and Joe Mitchell.

Finally, please join me in welcoming our newest employee Linda Le, Administrative Services Director.

Want more information? Check out the links at the bottom for detailed reports from the Public Works Department, Community Development Department, Sheriff's Report, as well as contracts executed by the City Manager within my signing authority.

See you around Town!

Warm Regards,

Peter

1. Construction around Town Hall

The Town has started our inspections with PG&E on the Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) project. The next inspection is scheduled for January 30th, weather dependent. Once we receive our final inspection, the system will be one step closer to going live and holding our much-anticipated ribbon-cutting event with the Town and Silicon Valley Clean Energy (SVCE).

You might have noticed audio-visual people working in the chambers. They are installing our new AV System. A new, larger screen has been tucked into the existing soffit. A larger, more powerful projector has been hung. New wiring has been pulled to the back of the chambers, and new council monitors have been installed. Coming soon are new cameras, mics, and a voting system. We are hoping that by the February Council meeting, we will be substantially complete.

3. Sheriff's Update

There has not been any reported residential burglary since the last report from the Sheriff ending 12/31/2023.

We are delighted to announce the Sheriff's Office has hired a Senior Communications Manager, Brooks Jarosz. Captain Valenzuela and Brooks met last week and covered some of the Town’s needs for sharing up-to-date crime/burglary information. Captain Valenzuela has invited him to our next Coffee with the Sheriff.

Reminder:

Captain Neil Valenzuela was kind enough to provide a few guidelines for hardening your homes this holiday season. For more information on how to safeguard your home and be safe in our community, visit our crime prevention page on The Town's website.

4. New Year's Day Hike/Walk

The Pathways Committee kicked off the year in high spirits by hosting a community walk/hike along the Town’s scenic paths. With no rain in sight, approximately 30 people attended, fostering a strong sense of community engagement. Walkers/hikers had a choice between a leisurely, moderate, or strenuous route that attracted members of all ages and fitness levels. The walk showcased the Town’s natural charm and allowed participants to explore the natural environment.

5. Welcome Linda Le - Admin Services Director
