City Manager’s Note

Hello Neighbors,

Happy New Year and welcome to the 2nd edition of the Weekly for 2024.

We have jumped to almost 590 subscribers of the Weekly since our last publication. Thank you for spreading the word by having your neighbors, LAH friends, and affiliates sign up. We share important news that your neighbors need to know.

MLK is this Monday and Town Hall will be closed, but I wanted to share a message of unity.

Please join me in welcoming Brooks Jarosz - SCC Sheriff Communications Officer

We have a number of events to share with you. Keep reading.

We invite you to attend the virtual coffee with the sheriff next Tuesday. Details below.

If you did not attend the State of the City Event, we have some pictures and a short summary.

The chamber of commerce is hosting another State of the Cities Event later in May. Stay tuned.

The council held their listening session for all the committees and commission as we head into the 2024-25 Goal setting study session on January 23rd. I want to thank all the Committee and Commission Chairs that prepared, came, presented, and shared their vision for the future. Their tireless contribution to the Town is a testament to why Los Altos Hills is a destination City.

Please join us next week on January 18th for our Regular City Council Meeting - Meeting starts at 6PM. And also on January 23rd for our Council Goal-Setting Session. That meeting begins at 10AM.

Finally, with a heavy heart we bid Linda Le, our Administrative Services Director, farewell after only ten days on the job. The announcement was sudden and unexpected, but we wish her well, and now we need your support and patience as we reset and focus on serving the needs of the staff, council and community.

See you around Town and happy MLK Day

Warm Regards,

Peter

1. A Message of Unity this MLK Jr. Day

As we stand at the threshold of a new year, I am honored to reflect on the progress we have made together as a community and share a message that resonates deeply with the values we hold dear: diversity, equity, and inclusion.

In the heart of the Silicon Valley, our town has always been a melting pot of talent, innovation, and culture. Today, I am proud to acknowledge the strides made to foster an environment that embraces diversity and actively works towards equity and inclusion. In the spirit of Martin Luther King Jr.'s vision, let us take a moment to celebrate the richness of our differences and the strength that arises from our collective unity.

Diversity is more than just a word; it's the vibrant collage of unique stories, experiences, and backgrounds of each resident in our town. Our community is a tapestry of talents, ideas, and perspectives, which makes us stronger and more resilient. This diversity is no longer tolerated but celebrated as an integral part of our town's identity.

Equity, the cornerstone of justice, guides our commitment to ensuring fairness and impartiality in all aspects of community life. We are dedicated to creating an environment where everyone, regardless of their background, has equal access to opportunities, resources, and a voice in shaping the future of our town.

Inclusion goes beyond mere acceptance; it is about creating spaces where everyone feels valued, heard, and empowered. Our town is committed to fostering a sense of belonging, where every resident, employee, and visitor feels that they are an essential part of our community fabric. Inclusion is not just a goal; it is a journey we embark on together.

As we celebrate Martin Luther King Jr. Day, let us reflect on his timeless message of unity and justice. Dr. King famously said, "Darkness cannot drive out darkness; only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate; only love can do that." In our town, let us be that light, that love, by continuing to build bridges and breaking down barriers.

I am inspired by the efforts we made thus far, but our work is not done. Together, let us recommit ourselves to the principles of diversity, equity, and inclusion. By doing so, we ensure that our town remains a beacon of unity, a place where everyone has the opportunity to thrive and contribute their unique gifts to our shared success.

Thank you for being an integral part of our diverse and dynamic community.

4. Sheriff's Update

There has not been any reported residential burglary since the last report from the Sheriff ending 1/7/2023.

Reminder:

Please join the Santa Clara County Sheriff’s Office and Los Altos Hills Town Staff for the Virtual Coffee with a Sheriff. Held (NEXT WEEK) on the third Tuesday of the month, this program is to enhance public safety and communication in the Town. This program was created to enable the Sheriff's Office the chance to interact more successfully with the citizens they serve each day. The event goal is casual, one-on-one conversations between residents and Santa Clara County Sheriff's Office. There are no speeches and no agendas. This is an opportunity for you to meet your neighborhood members of the Sheriff's Office in a relaxed environment, build bonds, and share ideas to make our communities even better. 5. State of the City Address

Mayor Mok delivered the state of the City address at the Los Altos Hills Club event on Tuesday January 9th. The event covered the Town's notable accomplishments from last year and some priorities Mayor Mok has, going into the goal setting session scheduled for January 23. We thank all those that attended, including our partners from the Santa Clara County Sheriff's office; Sheriff Robert Jonsen, Undersheriff Binder, Assistant Sheriff Urena, and Captain Valenzuela.

6. With a Heavy heart we bid Linda Le - Admin Services Director farewell

With a heavy heart after only 10 days with the Town, we bid our Administrative Services Director Linda Le a warm and heartfelt farewell. Due to personal and protected reasons and after only a week on the job, Linda made the hard decision to inform the Town that she has decided to terminate her employment. She delivered a statement to the City Council, sharing her affinity for the Town and support of the City Manager, as well as the exciting work that she came to do; however, due to reasons that came to light late in her first week on the job, she had decided to resign. This sudden and unexpected loss of a valued team member is a shock to all of us, but we will persevere. Losing valuable staff is hard but we will have a smooth transition. Now we will need your support in staying focused on serving the needs of our staff, the Council, and the community.
