City Manager’s Note

Hello Neighbors,

Welcome to the 47th edition of the Weekly for 2023.

We had a spike in sign-ups and now have over 550 subscribers of the Weekly and growing. Thank you for spreading the word by having your neighbors, LAH friends, and affiliates sign up. We share important news that your neighbors need to know.

Let's get started...

A special thanks to the community for this season of gratitude.

Thanks to Planning Commissioner Chair Alisa Bredo for catching a potential hazard on PageMill Road caused by erosion that our responsive Public Works team confirmed needed emergency repair. They will be starting the repairs as early as next week.

More events are coming your way including the Festival of Lights, the barn lighting, LAH planting of the North Hedge, and the New Year's Day Hike. Keep reading for more details.

Although we had another residential burglary, the trends are moving in the right direction after the Sheriff arrested the suspects linked to numerous crimes in and around the area.

Happy Thanksgiving (as a reminder we are closed on Thursday and Friday)

See you around Town!

1. Giving Thanks for our Community Spirit

As we gather around our tables to celebrate Thanksgiving, I want to take a moment to express my deep appreciation for the incredible sense of community that defines our town. Our small town is more than just a collection of homes; it's a close-knit family of individuals who are dedicated to making our community a wonderful place to live.

This Thanksgiving, I am filled with gratitude for the spirit of partnership and collaboration that exists within our town. Together, we have faced challenges, celebrated triumphs, and worked hand in hand to build a town we can all be proud of.

Our town's success is a testament to the commitment of each resident to serve and contribute in their unique way. Whether through volunteering on a committee/commission/council, supporting local initiatives, or simply being a good neighbor, your individual efforts contribute to the collective strength of our community.

This Thanksgiving, let's celebrate not only the abundance of the season but also the abundance of goodwill that flows through our streets. Your commitment to service, collaboration, and partnership is what makes our town special, and I am thankful to be a part of such an extraordinary team and community.

May your Thanksgiving be filled with joy, gratitude, and the warmth of shared moments with loved ones. Thank you for being an integral part of our town's story.

With appreciation,

Peter Pirnejad

LAH planting of the North Hedge of the Orchard at Town Hall

Please join the Environmental Design and Protection Committee in planting a mixed California native plant hedge at the north side of the town hall orchard area.

If you have them, bring gardening gloves and a shovel (and/or a spade) labeled with your name. Shoes, and not sandals, are recommended and weather-appropriate gear (probably a sun hat).

Mixed native plant hedges serve several purposes:

1) Screening

2) Habitat support for beneficial insects and birds

3) Resilience to disease in that several plant species will have surviving members if a blight takes out one species

4) Location-adapted plants that have evolved with the local weather (including rainfall patterns) and soils: little water and no fertilized are needed after the plant has rooted into its planting site.

(Some of the plant choices below have been updated.)

🗓️Date: Sunday, December 3, 2023

🕒 Time: 1:00 - 4:00pm

📍 Address: 26379 Fremont Rd, Los Altos Hills, CA 94022 (Note: our site is to the north of the Heritage House and Orchard, adjacent to the fence)

New Year’s Day Hike/Walk

Los Altos Hills New Year's Day Pathways Walk is an annual community hike led by the Pathways Committee. The goal is to showcase the pathways and encourage residents to explore new sections of the pathways. Well-behaved dogs welcome! Three different routes have been planned and will be guided by Pathway Committee Members. You have a choice between a Leisurely, Moderate, or Strenuous route. Hiking shoes with grip are recommended since some trails may be slippery. Each hike involves some off-road, native paths giving an opportunity to explore our natural environment. Not recommended for strollers because of uneven steep terrain. However, there are walks around the area suitable for young families. Rain will cancel the event.

🗓️ Date: Monday, 1/1

🕒 Time: 1:00 – 4:00 pm

📍 Location:    Purissima Park Baseball Fields

                            27500 Purissima Road

                            Los Altos Hills, CA 94022
