#126 Stated Meeting of Foothills Presbytery
Saturday, May 18, 10:00 am
Hosted by
Limestone Presbyterian Church & Bethesda Presbyterian Church
at 109 South Limestone Street, Gaffney
The theme for Worship is Mental Health Awareness.
After Worship and completion of our mission and ministry business, we will gather to enjoy Low Country Boil for lunch.
May is Mental Health Awareness Month. Since its inception in 1949, Mental Health Awareness Month has been a cornerstone of addressing the challenges faced by millions of Americans living with mental health conditions.
Did you know that:
- 1 in 5 U.S. adults experience mental illness each year, and only half of them receive treatment.
- 1 in 20 U.S. adults experience a serious mental illness each year, and only two-thirds receive treatment.
- 1 in 6 U.S. youth experience a mental health condition each year, and only half of them receive treatment.
- 50% of all lifetime mental illness begins by age 14, and 75% by age 24.
- The average delay between onset of mental illness symptoms and treatment is 11 years.
- 122 million people live in Mental Health Professional Shortage Areas.
You are invited to dress casually for our Saturday gathering
and Low Country Boil lunch.

Mother's Day Offering 2024
On Sunday, May 12, Presbyterian congregations throughout the State of South Carolina will collect the 70th annual Mother’s Day Offering for the benefit of Presbyterian Communities of South Carolina (PCSC). Since the first Mother’s Day Offering in 1954, the generosity of South Carolina Presbyterians has enabled PCSC to provide care for residents who, through no fault of their own, have outlived their life’s savings. This commitment, made 70 years ago, required tremendous faith, courage and vision. Over the last decade, your generosity has allowed PCSC to provide an average of $1.2 million in charitable care each year. Your gift, whether large or small, is vital for the success of this ministry. By honoring our fathers and mothers in this way, you help ensure that those with need can continue to call Presbyterian Communities “home.” Thank you for your generosity.

The congregations of Foothills Presbytery are blessed to have creative people among them.
Are you one of those creative people?
Are you musical?
Do you do woodworking?
Are you a weaver?
Do you dance?
Do you find yourself on a stage? Or backstage?
Are you a writer…of fiction, non-fiction, poetry?
Would you like to connect with a peer group in the presbytery?
Below is a link to a Google form that will gather names and email addresses of self-identified creatives in Foothills Presbytery. From this compilation we will send out a list of those persons who select the same type of creativity. For example, we’ll send a list names, email addresses, and affiliations of the textile/fiber artists to everyone who selected textile/fiber arts as a description of their creative art. It will be up to the members of the group to decide if they want to connect or gather in some additional way. But you’ll know that each other is out there!
We hope that eventually these groups might gather and create together – perhaps a “Foothills Creates Day” at Camp Fellowship. But for now we are just connecting people. This list will not be distributed beyond the presbytery and will not be used for soliciting artistic donations to any cause. It is simply a way of further weaving us together as a presbytery.
Please give the form link to everyone in your congregation who would be interested in participating in a creativity-based group. We welcome student creators as well. If you have questions, contact Lynn Miller at limestone.presby.pastor@gmail.com.

The Executive Certificate in Religious Fundraising (ECRF) is designed for religious leaders in faith-based organizations and institutions who wish
to learn more about the spirituality of fundraising and gain a core foundation in fundraising principles. The ECRF cover four key topics and includes select required reading to be completed in advance and the completion of a final project.
The ECRF provides the research, tools, and customized training to meet the growing needs of leaders in religious communities and fundraisers for
faith-based organizations. The focus of the ECRF is on the cultural, organizational, and philanthropic
practices unique to religious institutions. These practices in turn enable donors motivated by spiritual and religious values to experience the joy of generous giving.
| | |
The ECRF utilizes faculty presentations, interactive discussion, selected readings, and a context-specific final project to address:
• Nurturing Generous Congregations
and Organizations
• Nurturing Generous Donors
• The Practice of Religious Fundraising
• Integrating Religious Leadership
and Fundraising
This hybrid, in-person and online, program allows students the opportunity to earn a certificate in fundraising as they explore motivations for giving in the nonprofit sector. The class begins with a required two and half days in-person teaching
sessions in Greenville, South Carolina, hosted by Presbyterian College, three additional online teaching hours, and ends with a practical application project.
| | |
For more information about the in-person teaching sessions in Greenville, please email Perrin Tribble at ptribble@presby.edu. For information regarding the certificate program and final project requirements, please visit www.lakeinstitute.org/ecrf. | |

Save the Date for the 2024 Evangelism Conference!
Come join us for a journey into a more expansive and authentic understanding and practice of evangelism. For too long, evangelism has been used to grow our churches or convert people to a certain way of believing in God. This expression of evangelism has hurt many people and promoted injustice. During our gathering, we will explore how we are called to embody the good news of God’s healing and compassion — through A Lifestyle that Exudes Justice! More info to come: www.pcusa.org/evangelism.
