Governor Signs AB 160 Public Safety Bill

On September 29, 2022, the Governor signed AB160 into law. This bill contained "clean up" language that exempts communication and marketing of hunting, hunter education, sport shooting activities and competitions to youth that were restricted in June when the Governor signed AB 2571. CBH/SAA and other NGOs my now resume fundraising and membership activities that involve youth sportsmen and sportswomen.

THANK YOU to our lobbyist Bill Gaines and our partners in the California Hunting and Conservation Coalition (CHCC) for leading the effort with our State Representatives to insert this important language and an urgency clause into AB 160 by the August 30 legislative deadline and ensuring that it would go into effect immediately upon the Governor’s signature.

We acknowledge that the cleanup language does not address all our concerns with AB 2571. Two separate lawsuits have been filed which could place an injunction against the remaining language of AB 2571 until the lawsuits are resolved… hopefully pulling this law to rest permanently.
