Class Field Trips

Dr. Craig Bednarz, Stan and Gerry Sigman Associate Professor of Water Resources and Director of the Semi-

Arid Agricultural Systems Institute, is the instructor of PSES 7325, Plant and Soil Water Relationships. This class visited the USDA-ARS-CPRL (U.S. Department of Agriculture, Agricultural Research Service, Conservation and Production Research Laboratory) where they weighed lysimeters. Gary Marek, an agricultural engineer with ARS (also a WT alum), hosted the class. 

Dr. Bridget Guerrero, Associate Professor of Agricultural Business and Economics, is the instructor of AGBE 3302, Marketing of Agricultural Products. The class took a field trip to Canyon’s Consumer Supply COOP. This was a great opportunity to tour their facilities, learn the history of the cooperative, and understand the intricacies of how they operate. 

Class Activites

ANSC 4329/5329: Quality Assurance Certifications

Dr. Ty Lawrence, Professor of Animal Science and the Caviness Davis Distinguished Chair in Meat Science, is the instructor of ANSC 4329/5329, Meat Animal Welfare Management. As part of this class, students earn an online quality assurance certification. Possible certifications include Beef Quality Assurance, Pork Quality Assurance, or Sheep Safety and Quality Assurance.

CHEM 3511L:

Computerized Instruments

Dr. Shiquan Tao, Professor of Chemistry, is the instructor of CHEM 3511L, Analytical Chemistry lab. In this course, students use an up-to-date computerized instrument, known as a Shimadzu Nexis 2030 gas chromatographic instrument, to analyze complex samples. The students also have the chance to study the instrument structure and compare the differences of old instruments to new instruments.

ENVR/BIOL 6303:

Ice-Nucleating Particles

Dr. Naruki Hiranuma, Associate Professor of Environmental Science, is the instructor of ENVR/BIOL 6303, Advanced Scientific & Numerical Methods. In this class, students complete a numerical analysis project by freezing water droplets and atmospheric ice-nucleating particles. This project is to help prepare students to perform an atmospheric freezing assay simulation.

Dr. Gregg Veneklasen Named

Professional Rodeo Cowboy Association Vet of the Year

Dr. Gregg Veneklasen received the WT AG First Choice Award in 2015. From his key role in the PrimeOne Cloning project to serving as the primary attending veterinarian at the Horse Center to contributing as an adjunct faculty member on numerous graduate research projects, Dr. Veneklasen has and continues to be a great partner and contributor to the Paul Engler College of Agriculture & Natural Sciences. Congratulations, “Dr. Rodeo”!!

Ranching 101 seminars give participants practical, sound guidance on the tools and equipment needed to get started in ranching or land ownership. 

While these seminars are designed for people starting off in the ranching business or looking to improve their existing operation, anyone interested in the cattle business is invited to attend. 

All programs are held virtually on the third Tuesday of each month from 1:00 – 2:00 pm. Ranching 101 is free to members.
