Hello, Handbell Friends!
Barb Silvey here, your newly-elected Area X Chair. I will be honest; I am trying my best to understand all the parts of this pie chart but JIMINY CRICKETS! This being my first newsletter article, I will do my best to outline my vision for Area X and am so blessed that I am surrounded by experienced and knowledgeable Board Members.

My thanks to Glen Hascall, Ellie Hodder, Joann Wallenburn, Diane Barnes, Kylie Johnson, Rima Greer, Karin McDonough and PL Grove for their wisdom and information in the morphing of my brain from "regular handbell citizen" to Area X Chair. Let me tell you the first thing I learned: YOUR BOARDS WORK VERY HARD! During this pandemic, we have been meeting with the National Office, trying to figure out how to keep everything afloat financially. We will be meeting as an Area Board this month so I can learn more of the things I don't know yet. We have been talking about fund raising and how to continue to keep our area viable financially (so far, so good:-) and how to keep our members engaged and busy. After completing the last election, we will be moving to electronic ballots (Thanks, Glen!). Between last year and this, we have moved board members every which way but loose: Glen went to Past Chair, I went to Chair, Michele went to Chair Elect, which left us with no Oregon Chair (Thanks for stepping in, Heather!). Needless to say, the merry-go-round goes perpetually round and round. The only horse missing from our carousel now is an Idaho Chair.
Finally, many thanks to Ellie Hodder for helping us get Jason Krug's Zoom workshop together, co-hosted by the Pacific Ringers. Join us for a fun time of learning! See the announcement below.
In my February article, I hope to be able to write about the move back towards normalcy. I enjoyed watching several handbell concerts over the winter over Zoom. I WANT TO SEE THEM IN PERSON! I am sure you all are missing handbells and ringing with our friends as much as I am. Cross your fingers, stay safe, wash your hands, get your vaccination when you can, wear your mask, say a prayer, stay distanced and hunker down. We CAN do this together. Your new officers are listed below. Feel free to ask us any questions whenever you need to.
In closing and on a more serious note, we have some very sick people from the coronavirus in our handbell family (and our other families). We have lost some very dear friends from our handbell family because of this pandemic and because of the conditions in our country. Many of our handbell friends have stressful lives and their outlet for relief is handbells. One of these people is me. Without that or other outlets, depression and illness can set in quickly. Please hold each other close, whether by phone, letter (yeah, the post office is still open), email, facetime, what's app, zoom, social media or socially-distanced occasions with very few people :-) We must care for each other because WE ARE FAMILY.
Yours in handbells,
Barb

Conversation on Creativity
with Jason W. Krug
This Sunday, January 17th
1:00 PM Pacific Time
|
Pacific Ringers is proud to host "Conversation on Creativity with Jason W. Krug. Jason” in Area 10.
|
|
Jason a native of Indianapolis, is well-known in the handbell community as a prolific composer, but did you know that, in addition to composing for handbells, Jason composes for piano, organ, and strings? Were that not enough, he is writing a series of creative adventure novels for young adults—the Sadonian Chronicles—and has written the non-fiction book The General Theory of Creativity. Jason successfully makes his living as a full-time composer and author, and maintains life balance as the stay-at-home dad to two active boys.
Come for an hour or so of good conversation that may just spur your creative instincts to awaken and lead you to new places.
