Planning Underway for Classical Christian School as Shine the Light Campaign Seeks to Reach Phase One Goal

by Ben Hagood, Classical Christian School Planning Committee Chair

“Unless the Lord builds the house, those who build it labor in vain.” ––Psalm 127:1

Buoyed by much prayer, the Classical Christian School Planning Committee was delighted to accept the charge of the Vestry to plan a classical Christian school dedicated to raising up students to be ambassadors of Christ steeped in the best traditional and classical learning.

During the Committee’s second meeting on Thursday, May 30, members were excited to receive the Shine the Light Campaign update that $773,000 had been raised since plans for the school were announced on May 5 and that pledges and contributions received to date are $14.73 million. The congregation is now $1.67 million away from reaching the first goal of the campaign––raising $16.4 million for restoration of the historic campus, including expansion of the Parish House. Once this first goal is met, all additional funds will support the school and the upfit of the church’s building at Cumberland and State Streets to house the school.

Summer Outreach Opportunities

for Individuals and Families

Compiled by the Home Missions Team

Summer is the perfect time to break from the busyness of the year and enjoy serving individually or as a family to help others. Browse the Home Missions page of our website to help find a local ministry partner for whom you’d like to volunteer a time or two or much as your time allows this summer. Specific individual volunteer opportunities are listed under each ministry partner.

Families are also encouraged to research our ministry partners to learn ways our church is helping the underserved in the community, and then design a family project around a ministry you select together. Click the link below to see some additional ideas for serving as a family.

It Just Seems Like a Nicer Word

Almost every time we look out Juli Garland's office window, we get entertained by one of God's beautiful creatures: we see cardinals, orioles, blue jays, and even non-Major League birds like chickadees, mourning doves, and Carolina wrens! And there was that snail that showed up for work two days in a row and then––as best we can tell––skipped town.

We see squirrels quite a bit, too, but they tend to fade into the scenery because they barely ever seem to look up from their foraging. Except for one particularly acrobatic squirrel who has spent hours over the past couple of days stretched to his maximum, hind footsies (biological term) coiled around the metal stand of the bird feeder while his hands and mouth worked simultaneously to steady the feeder and vacuum up the seeds, nuts, and dried mealworms that Miss Juli lovingly fills it with.

If you follow St. Philip's on social media, you already knew about about our acrobatic rodent sciurine visitor. But if this is news to you, why not take a minute right now to give us a follow so that you, too, can be among the first to hear about schedule changes, special events, and all the latest church office wildlife news?
