Gretchen Bennitt appointed as Executive Director/Air Pollution Control Officer (APCO)
On March 8, 2023, the District's Board of Directors confirmed the appointment of Gretchen Bennitt to the position of Executive Director/APCO. Ms. Bennitt will join Yolo-Solano on Monday, April 10, 2023, and is the first woman to hold the top position at the air district.
“I am honored to have been appointed by the Board of Directors to lead this agency during this challenging period of increasing exposure to wildfire smoke impacts, issues with the energy grid, and coming into compliance with the federal air quality standards,” Ms. Bennitt stated after the confirmation of her appointment. “I am looking forward to meeting and working with the residents and businesses in the region to develop and implement solutions to these air quality issues which impact human health and property.” Read more about Ms. Bennitt on the District website.

2023 Incentives Solicitation is Open with $4.29M in Funding for
Mobile Source Emission Reduction Projects

Carl Moyer Program (Moyer)
The 2023 Moyer Program has $755,758 in funding available to reduce mobile source emissions in the following project categories:

On-Road - Heavy-duty Trucks, Buses, etc.

Off-Road - Tractors, Construction Equipment, etc.

Infrastructure - EV Charging, etc.

FARMER (Funding Agricultural Replacements for Emission Reductions)
The 2023 FARMER Solicitation has $1.39 million for the replacement of agricultural equipment including harvesting equipment, tractors, and other older equipment used in agricultural operations.

Community Air Protection (CAP) Incentives
This program has $1.79 million available for Moyer-eligible projects and will be prioritized for projects that benefit disadvantaged communities (SB535) and AB1550 priority populations located within the District.

Low-Dust Harvester Replacement Program
This new incentive program has $357,000 available through the US EPA Target Airshed Grant Program and provides financial incentives for the purchase of new low-dust harvesting equipment. The goal of the program is to reduce particulate matter (PM) emitted within the District and the Sacramento Federal PM2.5 Nonattainment Area. Learn more and apply.

$476,725 in Funding Available for the 2023 Clean Air Funds (CAF) Grant Program
The District is currently accepting applications for projects in Yolo County and the northeastern portion of Solano County for the following categories:
- Clean Vehicle Technology
- Alternative Transportation
- Transit Services
- Public Education/Outreach

'Don't Light Tonight' Program Closes 22/23 Season
During the 2022-23 DLT season, 17 Don't Light Tonight advisories were issued. This annual program runs from November 1 through the end of February each year and asks residents to refrain from wood burning on days that typical winter weather conditions contribute to an increase in particle pollution (PM2.5) closer to ground level. 2023 Clean Air Art Contest- Artwork Due March 31st
The 2023 Clean Air Art Contest is part of the District's Clean Air Classroom program that provides educational opportunities for students to learn about Air Quality and what they can do to improve air quality in their community.
The contest is open to students that live in or attend school within the District, this includes all schools in Yolo County, and in the cities of Dixon, Rio Vista, and Vacaville. Full contest details and entry forms are available at www.ysaqmd.org/classrooms/.

YSAQMD Welcomes New Staff
Loren Estrada joined the District in January as an Air Quality Technician. She graduated from UC Davis with a degree in Environmental Science with an emphasis in Natural Resource Management. Loren will be working with the Ag Burn Program, inspecting ag engines, handling engine registrations, and assisting with Permits to Operate and Authorities to Construct. Her interest in air quality and public health drew her to working at the District.
Victor Sierra joined the District in March as an Assistant Air Quality Specialist in the Compliance Division. He is a graduate of Sacramento State and recently worked at the CA Air Resources Board in the Mobile Source Control Division, and served on the Visible Emission Evaluation (VEE) Certification team.
