Colleen  Conlan '20

Colleen Conlan graduated f rom Manhasset High School in Long Island, New York in 2016 and is currently majoring in Psychology, with intentions of earning
her certificate in Human Resource Management.

"Since being in the Woods College at Boston College, I've become immersed in several organizations and have truly benefited  from the incredible resources offered here. My experiences with the cheerleading  team, volunteering with the First Year Service Program and Campus Ministry have pushed me to grow as person.

Academically, I could not ask for more knowledgeable mentors and bountiful opportunities.

To me, it is vital to be immersed in an academic setting where I will constantly be inspired to apply my full potential. Woods College has encouraged me to be successful in the working world and has provided me with the opportunity to change peoples' lives."

Sarah Says
A piece of advice from long term BC Woods College employee, Sarah Piepgrass,
Academic & Student Services Specialist:

In preparation to term-paper-writing season, I want to draw your attention to an article in a recent Library Newsletter about a series of videos that have been produced by the BC Libraries,  https://library.bc.edu/newsletter/?p=230,:  BC Libraries "Core Skills Tutorials."  The videos introduce students to the basics of research and citation management, along with short quizzes to test knowledge and skills. All eight videos, housed in YouTube, are available both through the library website and through Canvas Commons. Tutorials include an introduction to the libraries, using the catalog and databases, advanced searching techniques, focusing research, citation management, evaluating internet resources, and identifying primary and secondary sources.

Careful planning of learning outcomes, taking into  account library learning goals, College Writing course goals, prerequisite skills for learning  advanced research for upper-level courses, and information literacy frameworks developed by  the Association of College & Research Libraries (ACRL).
