Wandering the Woods

 Written by Lynn Clancy

Don't forget to scroll to the bottom for information on purchasing a personalized tile for the planned Message Board in the Woods by the new entrance stairs! The committee hopes that this will be the first of multiple Message Boards in the Woods.

I would like to tell you about our committee. We have 8 member volunteers. We all live in the Woods. We currently have two LF2 Board members on our committee. We came together, not knowing much about each other, but with a shared love of the Woods and gratitude that we live here with nature. We each had concerns about the Woods, especially the trees and thought we might be able to help the HOA see The Woods from a homeowner’s viewpoint. Our first meeting was in the summer of 2021 and we meet monthly. Alisa Woolsey, General Manager for the HOA, attends our meetings and she and the HOA staff are key to our success.

Here are some of our successful projects, partnered with the HOA, as of the end of 2022.

  • New woods entrance stairs and erosion control dry creek beds in the Trailview/ Sleepy Hollow/ Shady Hollow Woods intersection
  • Over 70 new trees of diverse species were planted over the areas of Sleepy Trail (D 1-2) and Shadeyvale Way (F-G) hillsides with drought tolerant erosion control groundcover.
  • Replacement of long-standing construction fencing with rustic fencing in our Woods west of Toledo
  • Earth Day 2022 with tree planting, vendors, and crafts
  • Hawk naming contest, meet Anthony “Tony” Hawk
  • Post it Board in the Woods for flyers and local notices (see information about supporting this effort below!) Sponsored by Mike Doyle, Realtor.
  • Two additional kids craft projects in the woods:
  • Rock painting and Bird Seed Pine Cones
  • Multiple benches along the Woods paths
  • Full Woods tree inventory and health assessment
  • Book nook library “Take a book- Leave a book” Sponsored by the Dillion family of The Woods
  • Multiple Mainsheet articles highlighting the value of the Woods and bringing attention to the maintenance needs of our Woods

We have lots of fun activities planned for our Woods families for 2023 and we are working on several projects to positively impact the Woods to include our second Earth Day In the Woods on Saturday, April 22, 2023. Our goal is to send out the Wandering the Woods newsletter with key updates each year. We are also happy to hear your feedback, concerns and suggestions for our shared Woods.

These woods are our community. It is only through diligent care, maintenance, renovation, creativity, and restoration that we keep it the wonderful asset it is for our community.

WE LOVE LIVING IN THE WOODS!
