We are celebrating the Smithville School District as our Chamber Member of the Month!
Take a look at my visit!
I was so excited when I was invited to the high school and get to learn more about some of the AMAZING classes that our students are taking. Mr. Moore graciously took me around the building showing off our fantastic teachers and students. Our community is lucky to have so many smart young adults with great leadership.
We started in Mr. Simon's class where he and his students have developed a radio station that broadcasts throughout the week and has set up 2 studios to allow our students to participate in, or create, their own podcasts.
Mrs. Marsh and her students have explored and created their own ability to add their own designs on apparel. They began exploring various t-shirt presses and working with industry partners to establish their own business of designing and producing shirts for Smithville students, staff, and community members.
Mr. Viebrick's class provides our students with hands on opportunities to assess, identify and solve many real life challenges they encounter. From small engine repairs to being a member of FFA, to providing our students an opportunity to participate in a welding competition, these students get a well rounded experience in career technical education.
Ms. Rendon's class provides our students a real experience in child care and pre-school learning. The students get an opportunity to design preschool lessons and experiences to assist with our youngest learners. Her class works with local partners to bring young learners into her classroom to allow her students an opportunity to put their ideas into practice.
Ms. Grassley's class is a family and consumer science class where students have had the opportunity to create their recipes for various drinks and foods. Prior to leaving for Holiday Break, her students were working with a local business to learn about various flavor profiles and why certain ingredients may not work well together. Her class has provided multiple tastings for our staff to sample the learning success in her classroom.
Ms. Courtoise's art class, students are currently working on their own personal pieces to display in our upcoming art show. Through multiple art classes, our students are exposed to a variety of types of art and get a chance to display that to our students, staff, and community members during our upcoming High School play.
Thank you Mr. Moore and everyone else in our district that are working so hard to lead our youth into great futures!
