Peace With Justice Advocates: Recent UCC Prophetic Call

On July 24, 2024, the Executive Leaders of the United Church of Christ released a Prophetic Call for Justice and Peace in Palestine The Peace With Justice Advocates, a Mission Group of the Justice and Witness Ministry of the New Hampshire Conference of the United Church of Christ releases the following statement:

"Living free, from the mountains to the sea, the New Hampshire Conference of the United Church of Christ Peace with Justice Advocates seek freedom for the Palestinian people who are restricted from access to the Jordan River in the west and from the shores of the Mediterranean Sea in the east.

We urge NH Churches to read the call of national leaders of the United Church of Christ to become familiar with the atrocities, sufferings and injustices resulting from the war in Gaza.

May our New Hampshire churches accept the National leaders' challenge to be peacemakers by calling for an end to the war in Gaza, the end of United States complicity, an end to the collective punishment in the Israeli occupied territory, and the establishment of freedom of movement for the Palestinian people."

Friends,

It is with saddened hearts and yet the hope of resurrection promise that we share with you that Gerry Tilton passed away on July 10th, 2024 in North Conway, New Hampshire. She was 86 years old.

Hiring Now: NEW Faith-Based Organizing/Advocacy Role

With The American Friends Service Committee

Calling All New Hampshire UCCers and Friends! There is now an amazing opportunity to engage in a one-year fellowship to help the American Friends Service Committee-NH Program and the NHCUCC Economic Justice Team do our small part to bring about “a just world for all.”

The NHCUCC Economic Justice Mission Group is a co-founder and co-facilitator, with AFSC-NH, of NH Voices of Faith, a multi-faith advocacy initiative striving to bring about a more just and equitable New Hampshire through a focus on the policy-making of the NH Legislature. The Economic Justice Team is also a co-founder and co-convener of the NH Faith & Labor Alliance which is dedicated to lifting up the shared values of faith and labor around worker rights, collective-bargaining and workplace justice. In both of these important efforts, we have an essential and treasured partnership with AFSC-NH.

Recently, AFSC-NH was able to secure a one year fellowship grant for an organizer/advocate to help support and enhance the work of NH Voices of Faith, the NH Faith & Labor Alliance and the NH Immigrant Rights Network ($24/hour as an AFSC employee, with full benefits). See the job announcement here.

Our hope is to fill this vacancy as soon as feasible. Contact Gail Kinney via economicjustice.nhcucc@gmail.com if you’d like to discuss this position in more detail than is contained in the job description. Applications via cover letter and résumé should be sent to AFSC-NH Director Maggie Fogarty at mfogarty@afsc.org asap.

Clothing Needed: Collection for Community in Jamaica

Organized by Rev. Tara Olsen Allen

Rev. Tara Olsen Allen is organizing a clothing collection for the community of Treasure Beach, Jamaica. This beautiful fishing village was devastated by Hurricane Beryl on July 3, leaving many without roofs, clothing, and furniture.

Rev. Allen visited Treasure Beach in April with artist and friend Mary Dunham, and is now partnering with Callaloo Butik, a local shop serving as a community hub, to collect clothing and hygiene items. She will travel back to Treasure Beach on Sept 2 bringing donations.

Those who feel called to assist in the efforts should contact Rev. Tara at revtara@pilgrimucc-nh.org

REMEMBER IN YOUR PRAYERS

We give thanks for the beauty of Your creation. In these summer days, remind us to cherish the world You have made; Bogs and Bumblebees, Eagles and Emu, Trees and Tapiers, all are made with Your Love and are Good Gifts we must cherish.

We remember our neighbors and our communities of all kinds and in all places, for within the present day the Just Peace of Christ can be scarce. Help us be instruments of Your good in our lives in areas where we struggle most to represent Peace. Help us to hear Your words of truth from the places in which You still speak them, O Holy God, for we know that You are Still Speaking. We especially pray for our leaders both near and far that exist within systems here, O God, that they might remember that they are your children, and all they do impacts Your children also. We are all one in You, God. And let us remember that we are ALL Your Children, deserving of the Just, Loving, Peaceful treatment with which you still our hearts when we grow weary.

We pray also for Summer Program Leaders in Our Conference and in All Places, for their health and well being in every aspect-for they bring such gifts down to the smallest of Your children, and are of such value for families and communities. Give to them Your steadfast presence as they do their Holy Work.

And for the 2024 UKAMA Delegation in Zimbabwe. Bless their journey and the partnerships they nurture. May their work be filled with Your Love and wisdom, and let all spaces they inhabit radiate with a Spirit of UKAMA.

Amen.
