Come pack meal bags that reach hungry people throughout the world. It is a very fun event and a great opportunity to gather as community to do something for those in need.

Walk Out Parkinson's Thank you!

Dear St. Michael’s supporters, family, and friends,

Once again thank you for your generous donations to the 7th Annual Cancel Out Parkinson’s (COP) Walk on April 6th. The weather was cool but sunny.

Since this year all donations were made through the Walk web site I set up a “Team Kay” site to facilitate donations directed to me. Four of us made the walk for “Team Kay” - Virginia Henry, David Daigh, Hugh and myself. We decided to take the shorter route this year (0.65 miles) and I estimated I walked 3/10 to 4/10 of a mile with my walker. I rode in a Transfer chair the rest of the way.

This year thanks, in large part to my St. Michael’s supporters, we raised $1,597 to help Parkinson’s Association of Northern California (PANC) continue existing programs and add new programs. These programs assist Parkinson’s patients and care givers in northeastern California.

Thank you from the bottom of my heart!

Kay Griffin

Centering Prayer

Returning in person, Wednesday May 1st!

The God Who Only Knows Four Words

Every

Child

Has known God,

Not the God of names,

not the God of don'ts,

Not the God who ever does anything weird,

But the God who only knows four words

And keeps repeating them, saying:

"Come dance with Me."

Come

Dance.

The Gift:

Poems by Hafiz, Translations by Daniel Ladinsky

Please join us the first and third Wednesday of every month, at 6:45 pm, when we will be reviewing and reflecting on the Divine Dance by Richard Rohr after 20 minutes of silent prayer. The book brings the Holy Trinity powerfully alive, and deepens our relationship with God through the relationship between Father, Son and Holy Spirit in the Trinity.

Starting May 1, St. Michael's Centering Prayer will be returning to in person meetings in the sanctuary. We will have the option for those who prefer to join by zoom still available. Please join us!

The Lord has Risen,

The Lord has Risen indeed

I Will With God's Help:

Journey Toward Racial Healing and Justice

Saturday, May 11, 2024 | 9:30am – 4:30pm

Hosted by St. Michael’s Episcopal Church

2140 Mission Ave, Carmichael, CA 95608

This workshop is rooted in our baptismal identity and the promises we make in baptism. It focuses on how we can more fully live into our promise to be loving toward our neighbors, to address racism in our communities and build the Beloved Community. During the workshop we follow the path of the Becoming Beloved Community labyrinth.

This workshop meets the requirement for licensing for Lay Eucharistic Ministers and Lay Eucharistic Visitors and unlicensed lay leaders (such as vestry members and ministry leads) in the Diocese. Other lay licensed ministries need to take Sacred Ground to meet Diocesan licensing requirements.

Early registration is encouraged to ensure a place at the workshop. Cost: $25 (includes lunch)

Deadline to register: May 4, 2024

St. Michael's Episcopal Day School News

St. Michael's Celebration of The Episcopal Day School's 60th Anniversary - Sunday, April 28th

We will celebrate our ministry with the Day school for the past 60 years. Our founding rector, The Rev. Thurlow Baker began the Day school shortly after St. Michael's became a parish of the Diocese of California. Over the past 60 years, it grew from a preschool to what it is today, a well respected Episcopal and Independent preschool through 8th grade School.

Mary Heise, the Head of School will join us, with the President of the Board of Trustees to share with us some highlights.

Come celebrate with us at Coffee Hour after the April 28th 10am service.

Piano Meditation

by John Cozza, Music Director

Prokofiev--3 Pieces from Visions Fugitives, Op. 22

In honor of the composer's birthday on April 23, this week's piano meditation is by Sergei Prokofiev (1891-1953), a contemporary of Rachmaninov but with quite a different compositional approach. Making his name as an enfant terrible with his motoric and percussive piano playing, he also could exhibit a tender, lyrical quality. The three pieces I've chosen this week illustrate that side, with a touch of Impressionism (courtesy of Debussy and Ravel) thrown in for good measure.

Upcoming Celebration of Life Services

There will be a Celebration of Life service for Genie Sholl here at St. Michael's on Saturday May 4, 2024 at 10am with a reception immediately following.
