Doy B. Henley School of Management to Launch in Chapmanâs Argyros College
A gift from Board of Trustees Chairman Emeritus Doy Henley will establish the Doy B. Henley School of Management within the Argyros College of Business and Economics. The gift was announced following Chapman Universityâs 2024 State of the University address on Feb. 9. âChapman is what it is today because of Doy Henley and his incredible leadership on the Board of Trustees,â said Chapman President Daniele C. Struppa, who announced the gift with Henley on the Musco Center stage amid confetti and applause. âWith his great success in the business community and as a board leader, itâs fitting that the school of management will bear his name.â This is Henleyâs second gift to Argyros College in the past year. In November, Henley gave a $1 million gift to establish an endowed fund that is dedicated to driving innovation initiatives within the college. Henley owned Aeromil Aircraft Engineering, which pioneered a manufacturing method to machine special surfaces in aerospace products. He also owned Cox Hobbies, one of the earliest companies to use electronic data for supply chain management.

Providence St. Joseph Hospital Implants First Dual Chamber Leadless Pacemaker on West Coast
A heart specialist at Providence St. Joseph Hospital in Orange has successfully implanted a first-of-its-kind wireless pacemaker that has the ability to control both heart chambers using synchronized wireless communication. The revolutionary pacemaker has recently received FDA clearance and consists of two small AAA battery-sized capsules that are inserted directly into the heart during a minimally invasive procedure in which patients can return home the same-day. Approximately three million Americans live with pacemakers, which are commonly used for patients with a low or abnormal heart rhythm. Existing technology pacemakers control just one chamber of the heart and itâs estimated more than 80 percent of the patients who require pacemakers need a device that controls both chambers of the heart. âThis is truly a breakthrough with a technological advancement thatâs like the difference between dial-up internet and high-speed Wi-Fi,â said Brian Kim, MD, the cardiology and electrophysiology specialist with Providence St. Joseph Hospital who performed the procedure.

2024 Young Senators Program: Now Accepting Applications
Submit your application by February 16th!
Young people are often eager to make a change in our community, but don't quite yet know how to get started. The Young Senators program is intended to be a pipeline that transforms the unique perspectives, experiences, and passions of our community's high school students into positive societal change. Empowering the diverse communities of Senate District 34 will also help deliver a more representative government that looks like California.
The goal of this program is to provide current High School Freshman, Sophomores, and Juniors with educational opportunities that foster skills in public service, empowering them as community leaders. Participating students will attend monthly meetings, during which they will hear from local and statewide public policy experts, participate in discussions and debates on current events & policy proposals, and strategize on creating and promoting local events that benefit our community.
Our application period is now open, and we will be accepting applications through February 16, 2024. To apply, please visit our application page by clicking here. No prior work or volunteer experience is required! If you have questions about the Young Senators program, please call (714) 558-3785 or email Emily.Rodriguez@sen.ca.gov.
