"We seek to connect people to God, each other, and the wider community and to welcome and affirm all people"

Sunday at First Olympia

Worship this Sunday, July 7, will be

in-person at 10am, as well as live-streamed at this YouTube Link.

This week we will conclude our first Summer worship series "Treasures in Clay Jars" where we've been making sense of contradictions in order to understand ourselves as fully human and called to God's eternal work. This week, Pastor Heather will preach on 2 Corinthians 12: 5-10, Connie will lead our music, and we'll all partake in Holy Communion together.

Be sure to complete a Digital Connect Card each Sunday you attend online worship. You may also give online, using our online giving platform.

Prepare Your Heart...

Before you hear Connie lead our Song Team in singing "Light the Fire Again," by Brian Doerksen, check out this cover from the original artist and featuring Marika Siewert.

Happenings At & Around First Olympia

Anti-Racist Film Club Summer Movie Night

Hello folks! We're doing our screening this month a little differently... the film club is teaming up with First Olympia's Kids Night Out ministry to host a fun summer movie night for our larger community. So, in addition to our ARFC regulars, expect lots of kids enjoying the experience with us!

Our selection this month is Kung Fu Panda 2 (2011).

After becoming the "Dragon Warrior," Po the panda revels in his job as a kung fu master protecting the Valley of Peace. However, when an evil warlord invades his home with weapons of mass-destruction and a genocidal vendetta against him, Po must wrestle with the ghosts of his traumatic past and learn to accept pain on the path to inner peace.

Click this link to watch a full trailer.

We'll be showing the movie upstairs at First Olympia UMC in the Gathering Place on Saturday, 7/6 @5pm. There will be dinner provided before/during the screening. There will also be popcorn! Then our discussion will be held on Monday, 7/8 @7pm over Zoom.

So our July schedule looks like this:

  • Sunday, 7/6 @5:00pm - Kung Fu Panda 2 (2011) screening at FUMCO
  • Monday, 7/8 @ 7:00PM - Zoom film discussion

If you're interested in either of these events, please RSVP here:

And if you're plan on bringing any kids, please fill out this more detailed version of our RSVP form:

How Do We Foster Peace From The Ground Up?

We Start With Our Kids! It’s not too late to register children (grades 2-6) for the Interfaith Works “Peace Explorations” free, supervised Summer Camp to be held July 22-26 from 9am to 3pm at Temple Beth Hatfiloh.

Registration closes July 18th. Teen volunteer helpers are also welcome and should they choose can volunteer for just one day, not the whole week.

Pastor Heather's Bible Study

Pastor Heather will be leading a Bible Study for five weeks beginning on July 10. The Bible Study will be from 1:00-2:00pm at Panorama in the Seattle Room which is in the Quinault Building (1751 Circle Ln SE, Lacey, WA 98503).

If you want to carpool from FUMCO, meet at the church at 12:40. The Bible Study is open to all people and we will be reading through 1 John together.

July-August Upper Rooms

Our shipment of July-August Upper Rooms has been delayed so they are not yet available for pick up in the front office. We are still working to resolve this issue with the publisher.

Thank you for your continued patience as we work this out.

Want a Health Check?

The Health Team will do blood pressure checks every first Sunday after worship. Stop by for this important wellness check!

Noisy Offering For Madison

Each year we support Madison by providing school supplies for several classrooms. We have that opportunity again this year. We are so excited to support Madison in this way!

Our Kaleidoscope Kids have started collecting a "noisy offering" at the end of their Time With Young Disciples on Sunday mornings. Bring your change to the church to join in the joyful noisy offering. The month of July's collection will go towards purchasing school supplies for several Madison School classrooms. You are welcome to give toward supplies for Madison through traditional (less noisy) giving also.

Summer Breakfast Club: Call For Volunteers

FUMCO is hosting a Summer Breakfast Club for Madison School families! During the summer months families might not have access to resources that are provided during the schoolyear, so we are offering breakfast to these families in the Great Hall on Sunday mornings from 8:30-9:30am, June 23-August 25.

Kim Fuchs and Peggy Rule are co-facilitating the program, and they are looking for volunteers to help with set-up, serving, meal prep, and clean-up. Please visit their Sign-Up page for more details about how you can be part of an Anchor Team or a Crew Team this summer:

Fill Out Our Discipleship Survey

As this program year comes to a close, we want to extend our heartfelt thanks for your participation in the many discipleship offerings this year! We are proud of each person's growing love of God and neighbor, made visible in service, care, and devotion.

Please offer your feedback in reflection on the past year (since September 2023), and what we might offer in the future in the survey below:

Hard copies will also be available in a plastic display box next to the front office window.

Life of the Church

Thank you to all of our wonderful volunteers and marchers who came out to Capitol City Pride last weekend to help us spread the message that "When God is Love, everyone belongs!"

At our booth, we gave out stickers, key chains, flags, bracelets, children's ministry schedules, and an invitation to join us each week for worship. Thank you for being a part of such a dedicated community with open doors.

Happy pride!
