Congressional Items

After a busy legislative calendar last week, Congress is on a state work period this week. The Senate and House will fully return on April 29th, though the Senate will be in session briefly for additional votes this week. There are no hearings scheduled this week in Washington.

Last week, NIHB meet with Senate Indian Affairs Committee staff to share budget priorities for Indian Health in FY 2025, including full, mandatory funding for Indian Health Service (IHS) and increasing health funding going to Tribes for agencies outside of the IHS. Looking ahead, NIHB Chairman Chief Bill Smith will be testifying before the House Appropriations Committee on May 8, 2024 to discuss Indian health priorities. You can read more about the Tribal Budget Formulation Workgroup’s FY 2025 requests here
