Congressional Corner

Congress is in recess this week as the first Party Convention begins. Upon their return, there are only two weeks of session left before August Recess. The House Appropriations Committee favorably reported the Labor-H and the Interior funding bills to be considered for a floor vote by the full House of Representatives. The Interior bill included a 23% increase for Indian Health Service, and the Labor-H Committee Report included a number of important directives in support of Tribes. The House Rules Committee says the Interior bill is likely to see floor action the week of July 22. With only two weeks left of session, the House faces internal difficulties to move its remaining appropriations bills off the House floor. The Senate Appropriations Committee started working on their FY25 spending bills this week and will continue their work when they return; they will take up the Senate draft Interior bill the week of July 22. There are no hearings currently scheduled this week.

NIHB launched an advocacy resource page on moving Contract Support Costs and 105(l) Lease Payments to mandatory appropriations, including an updated one-pager. Check it out and see how you can get involved!
