OASH Announces Tribal Consultation on the Syphilis and Congenital Syphilis Outbreak

The Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) Office of the Assistant Secretary for Health (OASH) will hold a Tribal consultation on August 5, 2024, to discuss the syphilis and congenital syphilis outbreaks. July is Minority Mental Health Awareness Month

The month of July is National Minority Mental Health Awareness Month, bringing awareness to underrepresented communities regarding mental illness in the United States. Upcoming events and resources can be found at the Mental Health Technology Transfer Center Network (MHTTC)

Due Soon: Public Health Data Modernization Tribal Implementation Center Request for Proposals (RFP)

The Public Health Infrastructure Grant (PHIG) National Partners, consisting of the Association of State and Territorial Health Officials (ASTHO), the National Network of Public Health Institutes (NNPHI), and the Public Health Accreditation Board (PHAB), seek the support of a contractor to serve as a Tribal Implementation Center to support Tribal health authorities to accelerate their data modernization activities. The purpose of this Request for Proposals (RFP) is to engage a Tribal-serving organization via contract to establish a Tribal Implementation Center. The notice of intent is due June 28, 2024, and the proposal is due July 21, 2024. There will be an informational webinar on June 25 at 1:00 PM ET.

Input Needed to Support Development of National Plan on Aging

The ACL released the following on “Aging in the United States: A Strategic Framework for a National Plan on Aging.” The Strategic Framework works to capture opportunities and challenges created by the aging of the U.S. population and defines goals and objectives for addressing critical aging issues. Comments are due on September 15, 2024 

Congressional Corner

Congress returns from recess this week. The House and Senate both come into session on July 8th. This week, the House will hear the Interior, Environment, and Related Agencies bill in full committee markup on July 9 at 9 am EDT; it will also markup the Labor, HHS, Education, and Related Agencies bill on July 10th at 9 am EDT. The House has also released its Interior Report. The Senate Appropriations Committee will also begin hearing its appropriations legislation in full committee markup on July 11th at 9:30 am EDT. The Senate has not yet agreed on 302(b) appropriations levels for its subcommittees, but the Committee will consider those allocations during their mark up this week.

Description: The purpose of this program is to improve access to evidence-based, timely, and culturally relevant maternal mental health and substance use (behavioral health) intervention and treatment by strengthening community referral pathways. Recipients will be expected to collaborate with pregnancy and postpartum healthcare organizations, refer individuals in need of behavioral health care to the appropriate entities, and provide short-term mental health and substance use services to individuals who cannot access care.

Description: The Innovation in Behavioral Health (IBH) Model (the “Model”) is an eight-year, voluntary service delivery and payment model promoting integrated care in behavioral health (BH) settings. The IBH Model will test the impact of a value-based payment (VBP) model aligned across Medicaid and Medicare that supports an integrated care delivery framework in specialty BH organizations and settings for adult Medicaid, Medicare, and dually eligible beneficiaries with moderate to severe mental health conditions and/or substance use disorders (SUDs).
