FEBRUARY WEBINAR
The Waterhub at Emory Turning Blue into Green
Brent Zern, Emory University; Jonathan Lanciani, Sustainable Water
FEBRUARY 18, 2016 | 1:00 - 2:15 PM EST
$99.00 COAA Members | $149 Non-Members
Emory University is proud to house on its campus the first WaterHub in the country - a unique, ecologically based water reclamation system. Over three years in the making, the facility went operational in March 2015. The facility will treat over 140 million gallons per year of waste water and reclaim it to heat and cool campus buildings and for toilet flushing. The use of reclaimed water for these non-potable purposes will reduce Emory's water footprint by nearly 40%.
This presentation will explore the reasons Emory implemented the project; the environmental, social, and financial benefits it provides; the design and construction challenges encountered during implementation; and the operational performance observed to date. It will also examine how the facility is being used as a living-learning laboratory to facilitate research and education across the larger Emory community.
As a university at the epicenter of a local "water war" that is now before the U.S. Supreme Court and in a fast-growing urban area that reflects global issues of water scarcity, this case study showcases a potential solution that can be transferable and replicable to facilities around the globe.
In this webinar:
- Participants will observe how Emory University approaches sustainability, particularly sustainable design and construction.
- Participants will be able to identify treatment methods for on-site black-water decentralized treatment systems using ecological based solutions.
- Participants will be able to identify considerations for integrating on-site treatment to current project after understanding water footprint and potential uses for reclaim.
- Participants will understand the community impact and environmental stewardship around reclamation and reuse.
Who Should Attend?
Facility Owners, architects, engineers, contractors, specialty consultants, CM's or advisers can all benefit from this webinar.
Small groups may gather in a room using a single registration, however, the individual log-in link may not be shared with others. Multiple computers sharing individual links will result in additional fees. AIA credit and certificates of completion are available for paid webinar registrants only.
Each PAID participant is eligible to earn 1.25 AIA Learning Units.
