A Word From our President

“Can you believe it’s July already?!” We’re fast approaching the halfway point of 2022. That time of year that makes you stop and gasp, “Wasn’t it just December yesterday?”

Before we jump into to the summer, let’s remember to keep a check on your Mental Health with these 8-Tips.

1.      Let go of material and emotional clutter. This will lessen stress and allow you to focus on what’s important to you.

2.      Practice basic self-care such as getting enough sleep, eating nutritious meals, and exercising to keep your mind strong.

3.      Practice deep breathing to reduce momentary anxiety. Simply inhale for four seconds, hold the breath for four seconds, and exhale for four seconds.

4.      Don’t be afraid to ask for help. Everybody needs a little extra support on occasion.

5.      Get outside and soak up the sun! Vitamin-D deficiency is linked to depression.

6.      Start a gratitude journal by writing down one thing you’re thankful for each day. Change your words, change your thoughts, and change your life.

7.      Be engaged in your community. Connectedness is strongly linked to higher life satisfaction.

8.      Give yourself permission to feel your emotions so that you can properly release them. It’s ok to not be ok. (https://www.normanregional.com/blog/8-tips-to-improve-mental-health)

It’s important to pay attention to both your physical health and your mental health, which can help you achieve overall wellness and success.

As we say goodbye to June and welcome July, there are plenty reasons to celebrate the mid-year. One of the reasons I want to talk about is summer. It’s time to minimize the screen time and head outside for some sun. What are your plans this summer with the world getting back to normal? Taking any hikes? Traveling to a beach? Maybe your plan is to get outside and walk for 30 minutes.

This month our newsletter will focus on ways to help you plan your summer vacation, providing travel tips when traveling on a budget, and offering various options to help you plan your summer vacation.

The WICT Network Greater Ohio has had a good start to 2022. We are excited to have held the Women’s History Month Celebration and kicked off our Mentorship Program in person. It was so awesome to finally put faces with names and connect in person for those events. We also hosted our virtual 5K Walk Run for Memorial Day in May and celebrating Pride Month in June encouraging equality and remind us all that love is love.

“It takes courage to grow up and become who you really are.”

STAYCATION IDEAS

Going out of town isn’t always feasible for everyone. Whether it is due to your schedule, health, or budget. Staying home and doing a staycation is well worth the time. There’s less hassle of travel, more time for relaxation, and a more stress-free time off. Having a staycation is possible. Let’s explore some staycation ideas for summer.

UNPLUG

Whether it is for a few hours or a whole day, make sure you get some time to unplug from the world. Turn off your phone, tablet, or computer. Take some time away from social media and the news. Relax and enjoy life without the constant thoughts of your news or social media feed.

SPA DAY

Splurge on yourself. Book a relaxing massage. Make an appointment to get your hair trimmed, cut, or colored. Visit a local nail salon and get a manicure and/or pedicure. Pamper yourself and enjoy the moments of relaxation and time away from the daily grind. You will be doing a kind service for yourself and your well-being.

MAKING TIME FOR FAMILY AND FRIENDS

While you have some off time, take the opportunity to catch up with your family and friends. You can spend quality time with them in person by going out to lunch or cooking a beautiful dinner. Even having a video call or a simple phone call can help you reconnect with your loved ones. Making time for those we love even to have small talk helps nurture our personal relationships with those that matter most to us.

CATCH UP ON YOUR FAVORITE THINGS

Life can get overwhelming with your daily routine. Take this time to unwind and do your favorite things. Go to the park, work on your fitness at the gym, walk around the neighborhood, or read your favorite book. Catch up on your favorite shows you have saved on the DVR. Read your favorite blogs, or play games that help you unwind. This is your time to do what makes you happiest.

Summer Riddle for the Month

I bring music wherever I go. I keep things very cold. I have wheels. People give my driver money and he gives them treats. What am I?

Thank you to all of our participants for the Memorial Day 5K.

Here is a highlight of two members who were out in the sun getting their steps in. Keep up the momentum all summer long. Thank you for sharing Ann and Marley.

Why is it important to celebrate Pride at work?

Nobody should be discriminated against at work for their sexual orientation or gender identity. Despite anti-discrimination laws and the mainstream acceptance of the Pride movement, there are still places in the world where employees feel pressured to keep their identities secret to avoid facing consequences at work. It is therefore important to celebrate Pride month in the workplace because we need to show all employees that they are welcomed and accepted, regardless of their identity. The WICT Network: Greater Ohio embodies and supports this philosophy too. We need to come together to show support for the LGBTQ+ community and fight for equality.

The WICT Network: Greater Ohio took the time to update their social media accounts to commemorate LGBTQ+ month. You too can make updates by using frames made available by the various social media platforms. Attach a relevant hashtag to every tweet or post during Pride Month will highlight your solidarity with the movement. By making a commitment to support the cause all month long will also communicate to the LGBTQ+ community that you and our chapter, The WICT Network: Greater Ohio supports their/our freedom.
