This month we celebrate National Volunteer Week from April 21-27. National Volunteer Week was established in 1974 by President Richard Nixon through an executive order which dedicated a week to honoring volunteers. Nixon recognized the importance of volunteerism and saw the need to celebrate those who selflessly give their time to make a difference. Today, National Volunteer Week continues to inspire individuals of all ages and backgrounds to get involved and give back to their communities. From organizing community clean-up events to coaching youth and supporting those in need, National Volunteer Week is the perfect time to showcase your dedication to making a difference.
As we celebrate National Volunteer Week, we take this opportunity to extend our heartfelt gratitude to all the amazing volunteers who selflessly dedicate their time, skills, and passion to making a difference with M-NCPPC, Department of Parks and Recreation, Prince George's County. Throughout the week, we will highlight the stories and experiences of some of our remarkable volunteers. Their journeys remind us of the power of volunteerism. Make your mark with the President's Volunteer Service Award! The President's Volunteer Service Award is a prestigious honor recognizing individuals who have demonstrated outstanding volunteer service and civic participation.
If you have provided 100+ hours (50+ hours for ages 13 to 15) of unpaid acts of volunteer service benefitting others within a 12-month period, you may be eligible to be nominated for the award. The award package includes a customized certificate, choice of the official pin, coin, or medallion and a congratulatory letter signed by President Joseph R. Biden, Jr.
