A Message From OSO President Debby Canter

“Be brave and be patient. Have faith in yourself; trust in the significance of your life and the purpose of your passion." --Jillian Michaels

Thank you.  Just two words that can convey a simple meaning or a larger one. Think of this one as a HUGE thank you. Thank you, convention attendees, committee members, committee chairs, presenters, chorus members, volunteers, ADSOEF Directors, Admin Team, and especially my sister, Kim. “It takes a village” certainly applies when planning and executing a state convention and our team did not disappoint. Did everything go as planned? Of course not, but wasn’t it wonderful to be together again!

And a few more offers of thanks: Thanks to Nancy Miller for the DKG bookmark - I love it! Thank you, Belinda Dixon and Cathy Tenney for your generous donations to ADSOEF in my honor. Also, thanks to Diana Kirkpatrick and everyone who contributed to my beautiful bracelet.  I will cherish it as it is a wonderful reminder of my biennium.

I have included a link to the 2023 Convention Feedback Form. Please take a few minutes to complete it. This will help President Elect Melodie McGee and her team make improvements for the 2025 state convention.

Other links that are included are the Biennial Seminar, Chapter President's Annual Report, and Gold Key Application. The deadline for the Biennial Seminar is May 25.  The Chapter President’s Annual Report and Gold Key Application are both due June 15.

If anyone is attending the DKG International Conference in Detroit July 12-16, please let Melodie know very soon so she can plan an OSO dinner on Friday, July 14. Please get your registrations completed and hotel reservations made before the room block is full.

Enjoy the feeling of renewal that spring brings!

Debby

World Fellowship: What's Next?

Note: Two young women, Emma and Darmini, from Indonesia, received aid from the World Fellowship program and are attending The Ohio State University.

The World Fellowship Committee’s goals were: to seek more information about the WF program and to extend the information to local chapters through articles in The Voice, to make contact with the recipients, and to invite the recipients to local meetings..

The Voice articles reviewed the history and operations of the WF Fund, provided members with ideas on fundraising, introduced Emma and Darmini with biographical sketches, gave information on the country of Indonesia, and shared the girls’ summer plans.

Both young ladies attended the luncheon at the June 11, 2022 Leadership Conference and spoke briefly about their gratitude to WF and DKG. Tammy Shroeder and Jeanne Bennett greeted the ladies and attended the luncheon with them.

Jeanne contacted Emma and Darmini in March and asked the question: “What's next?” Both will graduate from OSU in May. Darmini will go back to Indonesia and continue teaching young children in impoverished areas. Emma will also head back to her hometown and continue her work teaching Indonesian and English. She may return to the U.S. to teach Indonesian or pursue a PhD.

Respectfully submitted
