A Message From OSO President Debby Canter

“It's always inspiring to me to meet people who feel that they can make a difference in the world. That's their motive, that's their passion...I think that's what makes your life meaningful, that's what fills your own heart and that's what gives you purpose." - Maria Shriver

I have started this month's article and deleted it several times. It’s too difficult to put all that the past two years have meant to me in a single writing, but I will share a few thoughts.

Thank you to the members who have embraced my passions over the last two years. I wish I would have asked chapters to track their time and donations for each of my initiatives, but does that really matter? If one person signed up to be an organ donor, that’s a potential to save eight lives and help countless others. If one child received free books, that positively impacts that child’s future. If one little girl realized that she could become a leader, that impacts the future of others. If one teenage girl realized her worth, she could change the world.

Thank you to everyone who said YES when I asked you to serve on a committee or another leadership capacity. You made a difference in this biennium by giving your time and talents to keep this organization going and relevant.

Thank you to the 2021-2023 Admin Team. You have been a blessing to me the past two years both in service and as friends.

As I join the group of past state presidents, I hope to fondly remember my biennium as my time to have made a positive impact on this organization in some way. I know that you all have made quite an impact on my time as state president.

Thank you for allowing me to serve as your state president and the tremendous amount of support that you have given me. Was it smooth sailing? Not always. Was it worth it? You bet! Now I’m ready to renew one of my passions because if you think I'm cute now, wait until you see me on my motorcycle! Did you really think I could end without a little humor?

Chapter News from Around Ohio

Delta Mu Chapter raised money to support students at Uganda Christian University. Patty Huston-Holmes, Delta Mu, brought items back from Africa that were auctioned.

Beta Chi Chapter celebrated its 68th birthday at their May meeting. The committee was composed of Renee Penn, Sue Danish, Diana Bauman, Linda Cowin, Cindy Harris, Carol Klentz, and Sue Smith.

Chi Chapter of Delta Kappa Gamma recently welcomed Dr. Norma Kirby as their speaker at a luncheon with sister chapter, Gamma Xi. Dr. Kirby is one of the founding board members of the the Alpha Delta State Educational Educational Foundation. ADSOEF provides scholarship and grant opportunities to women educators. Pictured are Chi Chapter President Sue Samoviski, ADSOEF Director Dr. Norma Kirby, and Chi Chapter Past President Joan Avery.

Beta Zeta Chapter members gathered around the cut-out of Dolly Parton as they learned about the work of the Dolly Parton Imagination Library. Beta Zeta Chapter is assisting the United Way of Defiance, Fulton, Henry, and Williams counties to increase the enrollment of children in Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library.

Beta Nu Chapter members contributed books, baked goods, jewelry, plants, and home decor items for the annual silent auction. The proceeds were donated to organizations that benefit children.

Alpha Phi Chapter heard an enlightening presentation given by Stephanie Burlianek of Life Connection of Ohio on the process of becoming an organ donor and those who are impacted by the gift of life.
