Standards for Cultural Safety Survey

NANB is seeking nurses but also members of the public's input. Please share far and wide! We value your perspectives and experiences to better inform the development of this standard. The following survey has 5 questions, followed by 5 demographic questions that should take approximately 10-20 minutes to complete.

This review is being conducted through a survey and administered on a secure website. Your responses will be anonymous and confidential. Data will be reported as anonymous aggregate results. Please note that completion of this survey implies your consent to participate in this review process. Survey link

The deadline for completing the survey and submitting your responses is May 3rd.

CCP 2024

Update your Learning Plan

Your learning plan is a living document that should be kept updated and changed as required throughout the year, especially if you change jobs or roles. It is reported that competency is an issue any time there is a change in the nurse’s practice setting or role, when additional education is acquired, or when technology or care management changes. When these situations occur in your practice, it is most important to reflect on your competency, and readjust your learning plan as required.

As you complete the learning activities of your CCP learning plan, revisit and update your plan and record any completed learning activities.

As you implement your plan, you may identify other learning activities that assist you in meeting your established learning goal(s). Add these learning activities to your learning plan.

Complete these updates in your ‘’My Profile’’ account via the Learning Plan tab located on the left of your home screen.

Finding a consultative physician for NPs:

Whose role is it?

The Nurses Act stipulates that NPs must have reasonable access to a physician for the purpose of consultation with respect to any client and be able to refer or transfer any client to the physician for care.

In accordance with the Act:

a) If the NP is an employee, the NP is responsible for providing the name of her employer and an employer statement verifying that in the course of employment the NP has reasonable access to a physician.

b) If the NP is self-employed, it is the responsibility of the NP to provide the name and address of at least one physician with whom they have an arrangement for the purposes of consultation, referral, and/or transfer.

NPs must ensure a completed Nurse Practitioner Consultation and Referral Statement is submitted annually to NANB directly by the employer and/or physician with whom the arrangement has been made. Should employment circumstances change, NANB must be notified, and a new completed Statement sent.

Do you have questions about registration?

Things you may not know...

If you choose to take a role other than bedside nursing, you may still be required to renew your registration. Removing yourself from bedside nursing or hands on nursing care does not alleviate the requirement for registration.

Active practice of nursing means practice in any of the following roles:

  • Practitioner Educator
  • Administrator
  • Researcher
  • Nursing Consultant

NANB is responsible to protect the public by regulating members of the nursing profession in New Brunswick. As such, NANB determines if a role requires you to be registered, not the individual nurse nor employer. To find out if your current practice falls under a role that requires you to maintain your registration, please refer to the Guideline for Recognition of Nursing Practice
