What does summer Sabbath look like for you?
It’s been a busy program year, says Bishop Hughes, and as she did last year, she reminds us to take some Sabbath time this summer to rest, nourish ourselves, and allow God to restore us. (Time: 5:03 | Read the transcript.)

School for Ministry: Lay Preacher Training begins in August
The Episcopal Church allows the Bishop to license Confirmed lay ministers as preachers, for those who are invited by their clergy person to preach in public worship on an occasional or regular basis. In congregations without clergy, that supervision comes from the Wardens and Vestry. Training as a preacher includes studying Scripture as well as how to compose and deliver a sermon. Training for this license is provided by the School for Ministry and will meet monthly from August 2024 through February 2025. Information about cost, dates, and other requirements are found here.
Questions may be sent to the Director of the School for Ministry, Dr. Laura Moore (lmoore@dioceseofnewark.org) or the Canon to the Ordinary, Canon Andrew Wright (awright@dioceseofnewark.org).

Introducing a streamlined version of the diocesan seal
After working alone for 94 years, our diocesan seal now has a partner to help carry the load. Meet the streamlined version of the diocesan seal!
Our original diocesan seal, adopted at the 1930 Diocesan Convention, will remain in use as the official seal, engraved on the Bishop's ring and stamped in wax on official documents.
The idea for a streamlined version originally came about because of the difficulty of having the official seal, with its intense detail, embroidered on clothing. It includes all the required elements of the official seal, but in a lighter, more modern form. It also uses the same colors of blue, gold, and red. Read more.

Book recommendations for Pride month

Thank you to the churches that sent photos of their Pride flags for the June cover image on the diocesan Facebook page. Check it out!

Convention Corner: An interview with Janelle Grant about youth at Convention
By Donna Caputo, Chairwoman of the Convention Arrangements Committee
| |
Youth at Convention are always an exciting sight, but do you ever wonder what do they get to do there? Historically, youth have been involved as volunteer Pages assisting the Secretary of Convention, and as voting members as Youth Deputies. Of course, times change, and this year youth participation will look a little different. To help us better understand, we were able to get an exclusive interview with Janelle Grant (right), one of the Co-chairs of the Youth Commission, and a key planner for the new Youth Convo.
