Greetings!

Fall Festival is only two weeks away!  Current parents, please remind your daughters to sell their Fall Festival raffle tickets and return the money to Mrs. Picha.  Support UA and the Spirit Princess candidates, and earn the following day off school!

Spirit Week is October 1-5.  Dress like a Mermaid on Oct 1, tropical on Oct 2, nautical on Oct 3, like a tacky tourist on Oct 4, and in your class color that Friday!

Volunteers are also needed for Fall Festival on Sunday, October 7.  Contact Linda Kriegshauser at lkriegshauser@gmail.com to get involved.
Discover the power within...

The weekend of September 8, Kendyl Cuddihee '16, participated in the MS150, fundraising and cycling over 85 miles in memory of her grandmother who battled multiple sclerosis.  Great job, Kendyl!

The Face Painting & Clown Club participated in the first annual Alternating Hemiplegia of Childhood Walk at Tilles Park on September 15 in coordination with Meg Turner Krenn '99 whose daughter suffers from the condition.

Maddie Stadler '13 was UA's 2012 Outstanding Student Leaders Award recipient, awarded by St. Louis County and presented by County Executive Charlie Dooley on September 17 in Clayton.  Before the ceremony, the many student leaders representing St. Louis County high schools participated in leadership activities, discussions and lunch.

On September 20, Brittany Moleski '14 and Emily LaMarche '14 and were honored as recipients of the UMSL College of Fine Arts and Communications Dean's Award for Creative Achievement in the Arts.  This award recognizes selected Missouri and Illinois high school juniors in the visual and performing arts who display outstanding talent, leadership and responsibility in one or more of their high school arts programs, and includes a $1000 scholarship to UMSL.  Emily and Brittany were nominated by Mrs. Ann Shea and Ms. Annie Scheumbauer, and UA was one the few schools--if not the only school--to have two recipients.
Big Week for Freshmen

The class of 2016 enjoyed welcoming activities throughout the week, including lunch with their big sisters on Tuesday (below), the Freshman Induction Ceremony on Wednesday and the Big Sister-Little Sister Lock-In on Thursday.  The candlelight circle around the pond late Thursday evening was a treat for all--including passers by!

What's going on in the classroom?

Mrs. Maria Berra's Photoshop class got twice as creative as usual with their "Me and Me" projects.  Below are works by Sarah Basler '13 and Samantha Jakubeck '13.

Next Friday, September 28, the junior class will join high school juniors from around the area at SLU's Chaifetz Arena for a youth day program run by Catholic Charities. Mrs. Joni Mullen (theology) has been instrumental in the planning and organization of the event, and we are excited about the opportunity for our students to take advantage of this program for faith development.  Juniors will report to school that day and will travel to SLU by bus.

Prayer Day Relays

Autumn is such a wonderful time to be reminded of God's beauty around us.  We welcome the season with our first Prayer Day Relay of the year on Thursday, October 11, from 9am until 3pm (following the freshman/sophomore parent liturgy).  All current and past parents, co-workers and alumnae are invited to participate in this unique opportunity to come together in prayer for our Ursuline community.  Four times per year we will have "pray-ers" sign up for half-hour shifts to pray in the UA chapel.  In addition to praying for each student and her family, we also pray for intentions submitted by the community.  At the end of your shift, you are "tagged" by the next "pray-er," with the intent of having an unbroken chain of "pray-ers" in the chapel throughout the day.  It is powerful for the students to see us in prayer and it is a peaceful time for you.  Contact Mary McGovern (mom of three UA alumnae) at nevir@swbell.net to sign up for a time slot, and save the date for the next relay on December 6.
