VBS participants had a swimmingly great week!
Gloria Dei had 40 energetic participants and 27 volunteers throughout the week of July 8-12. Everyone had a splashing good time (it was REALLY hot early in the week!) and discovered through the SCUBA VBS program that God is our friend forever. Just over $120 was raised for a Water Mission project in Tanzania.

CYF Visioning Meeting
Join us Wednesday, July 24 (note date change!) for a CYF Visioning Meeting from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm. We will meet in the Fellowship Hall, but will have a Zoom option if someone is unable to attend in person. This change is to allow more participants to join us for this important planning meeting. All students, family, volunteers, and congregants who would like to help envision what our children, youth, and family ministries will look like moving forward are welcome to join. In a time of changing culture and faith, this is a chance for us to re-evaluate what it means to provide ministry opportunities for young people in our congregation and community.

Fe y Esperanza
Do you like working with kids?
Fe y Esperanza (Faith and Hope) is a weekly remote tutoring program for students from Spanish-speaking homes who need assistance with learning and schoolwork. The focus is on reading, writing, and math, as well as pronunciation and general subjects. All tutoring is in English; no Spanish knowledge is required. Children range in age from pre-school through middle school. The program meets on Monday afternoons (via Zoom) during the school year. This program is a ministry of Gloria Dei Lutheran Church with tutors coming from Everett to North Bend.
We are currently recruiting substitute tutors and a Zoom coordinator on an as-needed basis. The commitment is for one and half hours on tutoring weeks.
For additional information, please contact Karen at feesperanzaministry@gmail.com. Thank you/gracias for considering supporting Latino kids and their learning in our community.

NW WA Synod Lay Ministry Formation Program
Are you hearing a call to grow deeper in ministry? Is your church in need of lay people to be equipped and empowered for leadership roles? Our Synod’s new Lay Ministry Formation (LMF) Program will be starting its second Cohort of participants this September. LMF is a 2-year, cohort-based, certificated program that facilitated discussion, experimentation, and wrestling with what it means to be lay leaders in your church or vocational context. Whether your leadership context is within children/youth ministry, music ministry, social justice, equity and inclusion, small group leadership, evangelism, or other area of focus...this program will better prepare you to discern the movement of God in that context and join in God's mission.
There will be an informational meeting held over Zoom on Tuesday, August 6th at 7:00 pm. Click on this Zoom link to attend the informational meeting.
Read more about the program on their website and watch a 2-minute promo video here (link: https://www.lutheransnw.org/ministries/lay-ministry-formation).

All Who Wander - Death Cafe
The next Death Cafe will be held on Thursday, July 25th from 7:00 pm to 9:00 pm in the fellowship hall at Gloria Dei.
A Death Cafe is a safe space for all individuals to gather, talk about, and openly share their thoughts (or just listen to) on that taboo subject... death. While the topic of death is usually not a welcomed subject, at a Death Cafe it is the only topic and we openly discuss it with no judgements or shame. There will be no speakers, no selling of anything, no politics, no religion. Just the freedom to talk and explore all aspects of death. Each and every conversation is different and you never know where we might go as we talk about all things death. All Who Wander is a support services group that assists all humans to plan, celebrate, and process death, dying, grief, and all the in-between things of life. This gathering is open to all in the community, including members of Gloria Dei.

This time we will be experiencing the Examen, a form of prayer that invites us to reflect on the events of the day in order to see where God was present and to discern God’s direction for us. It’s a wonderful way to end each day, so come and learn a new way to connect with God! Watch for the Zoom link in your inbox.
