The Training and Development Institute of AACCNJ Launches Spring 2024 Workforce Development Series

(Hamilton, NJ – April 22, 2024) The Training and Development Institute (TDI) of the African American Chamber of Commerce of New Jersey (AACCNJ) is proud to announce the launch of its 2024 Spring workforce development series, reinforcing its commitment to providing access to high quality training designed to create pathways to long-term careers.


TDI kicked off its spring training season with its Workplace Readiness Training (WRT), featuring dynamic facilitator Earl Brown. The WRT program catered to 15 Pathways to Recovery training participants in Mercer County, equipping them with essential skills and knowledge to enhance their employability. John Harmon, Founder, President, and CEO of AACCNJ, stated, "Our Spring workforce development series reflects our ongoing commitment to empowering socially and economically disadvantaged communities through targeted training and development programs. This program demonstrates our continual effort to improve the competitiveness of New Jersey”.


In a collaborative effort with the JPI Group, I Am Polished, LLC., Gifted Hands Community Center, and Leneus Consulting, TDI hosted a full-day employment exploration training for trainees from the Haitian-Creole-speaking community in Mercer County. A total of 36 trainees participated, receiving hands-on support with CV preparation, job applications, and guidance on selecting and enrolling in credential and training programs.


L. Greg Smith and Chuck Berger of BEST Talent Management Strategies conducted two sessions of Excellence in Customer Service and Sales Training, benefiting 17 participants.

 

Morguards National Security trained two cohorts of Pathways to Recovery participants in Mercer County, assisting 21 trainees in obtaining NJ SORA licenses. Russel Morgan, CEO of Morguards, commented, "We are proud to partner with the AACCNJ (TDI) in providing career opportunities for those aspiring a career in the security industry throughout the State of New Jersey equipping individuals with the necessary skills to succeed within the workforce. Becoming a SORA certified security officer is a step in the right direction”.


In collaboration with NJMEP, AACCNJ launched its first OSHA 30 cohort, which will continue throughout April to certify 15 trainees.


Furthermore, in partnership with the Asbury Park Housing Authority, TDI, Morguards, and the NJ State Police Private Detective Unit trained a new cohort of 13 NJ SORA officers for Monmouth County. Shemea Marshall, Executive Director of the Asbury Park Housing Authority (APHA) remarked, "The collaboration between AACCNJ (TDI), Morguards, and the NJ State Police  Private Detective Unit has been instrumental in training and certifying new NJ SORA officers, contributing to APHA’s vision to empower people and develop and manage assets for community transformation. This collaboration is only the beginning of an integral alliance to pour into the people and community of Asbury Park. Fostering community and corporate partnerships such as this supports our mission in creating new opportunities for those who may not have been privy to such an opportunity. The APHA is truly grateful and honored for this new relationship.”
