Message from the Pastor

Dear Friends,

This Sunday is called, “Good Shepherd Sunday.” It happens every year on the 4th Sunday of Easter. We look forward to reading Psalm 23, which begins, “The Lord is my Shepherd.” We will focus on the text, John 10:11-18, which includes Jesus’ statement, “I am the Good Shepherd.” Important background for this text is found in the story of the healing of a blind man in John 9. This reading is too long to add to our worship service, but you may want to read it on your own. There are clear connections between a blind man who “hears” Jesus’ voice and religious leaders who then expel him from the community. I look forward to exploring these texts together on Sunday. We also look forward to some of the wonderful music that has been written to celebrate the metaphor of God as the Good Shepherd.

Bible Study, by Zoom Wednesday 7:00-8:00 p.m.

Come and join us as we study the texts for worship on Sunday. This week’s study will be focused on another one of Jesus’ “I am” statements.

“I am the vine, you are the branches,” found in John 15:1-8.

No preparation is required. We would love to have you join our growing group!

Through this program, we help to fund lessons for talented students with financial need. These students are here for lessons every Wednesday afternoon. We are proud of their work. They have set a goal of practicing 117 hours in the month of April!

We are still continuing to learn our books of the Bible song; we also are learning the spelling of the books with a letter game. Letters were scattered around the room and each student got a chance to spell out their own word of choice.

Calling All Coffee Hour Hosts

Coffee hour is a wonderful time to catch up with folks and welcome new friends. Hosting duties can be as simple as picking up a cake from the local supermarket and slicing it upon arrival. Or how about sliced cheese and crackers? Bagels, muffins, scones, mozzarella sticks, cookies, yogurt parfaits, fruit salads, etc.

You don't have to do it alone either team up with a friend or neighbor. The deacons make the coffee and set out the cups and accompaniments and you supply the snacks and milk. Plates, bowls, napkins, flatware and cups are provided by the church. Help us keep this delightful gathering a success after worship.

You can call Natasha in the office to arrange a date or put your name on the sign-up sheet.
