In a heartwarming announcement, we proudly introduce the 2024 George Angulo Scholarship recipients, Maia Schlesiger and Sean Cousins! Standing out among a pool of 30 applicants, Maia and Sean show promise of a bright and successful future.
Maia, a student at Lake Braddock Secondary School, is gearing up to embark on her academic journey at Cornell University. Not only has she excelled in volleyball and soccer with SYC, but she has also dedicated time to coaching elementary and middle school volleyball teams at SYC. In addition, her volunteerism extends to environmental conservation through her involvement in replanting native vegetation and eradicating invasive species with the Fairfax County IMA Program. In addition, she is an active volunteer with the Lorton Community Action Center (LCAC) Food Pantry stocking and delivering food and essentials to those in need.
Sean, a South County High School student, sets an inspiring example with his dedication to SYC Soccer for an impressive 20 seasons! He has also generously volunteered his time as an assistant coach at SYC. Sean's compassionate nature is evident in his service at INOVA Fairfax Hospital's gift shop and his initiative in organizing a fundraiser to support South County High School seniors in need of assistance with graduation expenses.
Maia and Sean truly embody the essence of community service and academic excellence, making them deserving recipients of the 2024 George Angulo Scholarship. Congratulations!
