The Top 10 Things to Know for Brownfields 2023

1: Location, Location, Location


The 2023 National Brownfields Training Conference, and all educational programming, will be held at Huntington Place, located in at 1 Washington Boulevard, Detroit, MI 48226.

2: Getting Your Conference Badge


When you get to the Registration Center at Brownfields 2023, you will scan your barcode to receive your conference badge. The barcode will be sent to you via email with the subject line, "Registration Bar Code - 2023 National Brownfields Training Conference - DO NOT REPLY."


When you first enter Huntington Place for Brownfields 2023, please head directly to the Registration Center. The Registration Center will be located in the Atrium, Level 100 of Huntington Place, directly inside the Atwater Street entrance. If you enter on Washington Boulevard, head down the large escalators to your left.


Please note: If you signed up for a Brownfields University course starting at 8:30 AM on Tuesday, August 8th, head directly to your Brownfields University room and sign in. Signage will be prevalent with Brownfields University locations. Your badge will be waiting for you outside the room at the conclusion of the course.


3: Staying Hydrated


Summer is in full swing in Detroit, so don't forget to stay hydrated! Free conference water bottles will be distributed at registration, with water bottle fillers available throughout the convention center.

4: Dress Code


Suggested dress for all events is business casual. The temperature inside may fluctuate based on the size of the room and the number of people inside, so bringing along a light jacket or sweater is always encouraged. Don't forget to wear your walking shoes!


5: Credits and Certifications


AICP and other professional continuing education credits are available for some sessions. Visit the Ask Me! Desk, located in the lower Atrium, Level 100, adjacent to the Registration Center, for more information.


6: Conference App - Whova


The Brownfields 2023 conference app is Whova. You can use Whova to create a custom schedule, post questions, network with other attendees, and more. Download Whova from the app/play store and use the invitation code "Brownfields2023" to enter.

7: Food and Concessions


An abundance of food and beverage outlets will be open for conference attendees. Please note, only debit, credit or facility gift cards will be accepted at concession stands. Cash can be used to purchase a facility gift card for use at all concession areas. Concessions sold will include: Hot and Cold Beverages, Fresh Fruit, Yogurt, Salads, Wraps, Sandwiches, Breakfast Sandwiches, Stations with: Tacos, Hamburgers, Hot dogs / Sausages, Asian and Pizza. BBQ and Cheese Steak Carts. Offerings will include gluten-free and vegetarian options. 

8: Special Events

9: Getting Around Town


The Detroit People Mover is an elevated tram line with a one-way loop around downtown Detroit. Most Brownfields Conference hotels lie along the People Mover route. The Huntington Place station is located at the far end of Level 400.


Public transportation from the Detroit-Wayne County Airport (DTW) is available on the SMART system via the 261 Fast Michigan route.


Ride share services such as Uber and Lyft, as well as taxi services, are readily available in Detroit.


Attendees staying at the Motor City Casino-Hotel will have access to (2) complimentary continuous loop shuttles between the hotel and Huntington Place. Guests can board the shuttle, outside the Casino Valet entrance on the ground floor and will be picked up at the Huntington Place Atwater Street entrance, Level 100 adjacent to the Registration Center, at the bottom of each hour. It takes approximately 10 - 15 minutes to shuttle between the two facilities. Shuttles will run 7:30 AM - 4:30 PM from Tuesday, August 8th through Thursday, August 10th, and from 8:30 AM - 12:00 PM on Friday, August 11th.

10: First Time at a Brownfields Conference?


We will be hosting a special session for Brownfields 2023 first-time attendees on Wednesday, August 8th from 10:30 - 11:30 AM in Room 360, Ambassador Ballroom.
