Empowering students with autism to achieve their greatest potential in all aspects of their lives.

May, 2024

“Anyone who does anything to help a child in his/her life is a hero to me.” Fred Rogers

Dear Friends,

The Timothy School teachers are, indeed, unsung heroes, devoting themselves to educating and empowering students with autism. Our team of 80 faculty members work tirelessly to help students with autism achieve their greatest potential, in all aspects of their lives.

In celebration of Teacher Appreciation Week, The Timothy School honored our exceptional faculty with daily raffles, special treats and lunch from a food truck.

To further express our gratitude, The Timothy School is launching The Teacher Appreciation Fund. This initiative aims to sustain our tradition of recognizing the extraordinary efforts of our teachers through incentives, appreciation luncheons, and by providing each classroom with a modest grant in the fall for educational materials. Our goal for the 2024-2025 school year is $7,000.00.

Please consider making a gift to The Teacher Appreciation Fund and help us continue to celebrate and champion The Timothy School's heroes, our teachers.

Thank you,

Sarah Louise Hale

Grandparents & Special Friends Day

On April 17, 2024, The Timothy School was filled with more love than usual, as grandparents and special friends visited the students.

The grandparents and special friends had the opportunity to visit their student's classroom, engage in a fun craft activity, make music together, and enjoy a snack.

Thank you to all of our guests for making the day extra special for all of us, especially the students.

Autism Awareness Month Support

THANK YOU to the generous employees of the Merrill Lynch Suburban Philadelphia Market, for raising almost $4,600.00 for The Timothy School in honor of Autism Awareness & Acceptance Month!

During the month of April, Merrill Lynch employees, who donated $25.00 or more to The Timothy School, were permitted wear jeans to work on Fridays. Plus, every gift to The Timothy School will be matched by Merrill Lynch!

The Timothy School ended the last full week of Autism Awareness & Acceptance Month with a delicious gift from Rubin, Fortunato & Harbison PC. The law firm provided a fantastic breakfast from Crocodile Cafe & Catering to honor our faculty and staff for their hard work and dedication. It was a perfect way to start an inservice day of team building exercises.

The breakfast was followed up by a visit from Patricia Tsipras, one of Rubin Fortunato's attorneys. Tricia took a tour of the school, presented a generous gift on behalf of the firm and could not resist purchasing some of the beautiful wreaths handmade by our students in The Timothy Crafters on-campus internship.

The Timothy School is grateful to everyone at Rubin, Fortunato & Harbison P.C. for their generosity and thoughtfulness.

Annual Spring Concert

One of The Timothy School's favorite events is the Annual Spring Concert. Thanks to our talented Music Therapist, Jake Mauersberg, our students put on a fantastic Disney-themed show. The feelings in the room are best expressed by one of our parents, Tia Schwab:

"Today was one of the greatest days of my life and proof angels live among us! To see the pure joy in your child’s eyes has to be the greatest Mother’s Day gift! I love this school and all the people who work so diligently to show our children love, respect, and presume competence in their ability to shine. It was a very special day."

Please enjoy the video and see if you can find Tia's son, Andy!

Music Therapy Is For Teachers, Too!

Jake Mauersberg also started a new Drum Circle program for teachers and staff.

Once a week, after school, teachers and staff are invited to join the Drum Circle to help provide stress relief and group cohesion.

Thank you, Jake, for sharing the benefits of music therapy with all of us at The Timothy School!

The Priceless Gift of Communication

The Timothy School is grateful to Claymore Environmental, a full service environmental consulting firm specializing in site investigation and remediation, for the generous gift of new AAC devices. What is AAC? Augmentative and Alternative Communication is a powerful tool that can significantly improve our students' lives. Our Speech-Language Pathology Department uses (AAC) to enhance communication independence for our students who are non-verbal/limited-verbal.

Please watch this video and join all of us at The Timothy School in thanking Claymore Environmental for these crucial tools that help our students express their wants, needs and decisions while also allowing them more autonomy, positive social interactions and improving their overall quality of life.

On-Campus Internship News

Vending Machine Management is one of The Timothy School's on-campus internships for our Middle and Secondary School students. It is also a favorite service for our teachers and staff so they can grab a snack or drink during their busy day.

Managing the vending machine teaches our students many important vocational skills that can be applied to their off-campus internships and future jobs.

The student interns are responsible for taking inventory of the vending machine, updating the data in the computer, collecting and counting the money, ordering new stock, and refilling the machine. Plus, all profits from vending machine sales are donated to The Timothy Fund!

Yoga is for Everyone!

In 2016, Victoria Sylvester, M.A.Ed, developed a yoga program for neurodivergent learners and began teaching this program at The Timothy School.

Vicki believes, "Yoga is for everyone and there are a magnitude of benefits to be gained from the practice."

In 2022, our Secondary School students began attending yoga classes at Vicki’s studio, Path Yoga Therapy. Community members periodically join our students in class.. Vicki's mission is to help develop leisure programs within the disability community and support graduating students confidently transition into public classes.

The Timothy School is grateful for Vicki’s dedication to building awareness, acceptance and support of the autism and disability community and promoting inclusion in her programs.

The Timothy School's 30th Annual Golf Classic

The sun was shining down on almost 100 golfers, who came out to Penn Oaks Golf Club on Monday, May 13, 2024, to support the mission of The Timothy School.

Whether you were a golfer, sponsor, donor or volunteer, contributed to the raffle prizes, joined us for dinner and/or purchased a raffle ticket, we thank you for helping make the event a success. (We will be sending out an update, soon, on the total amount raised.)

One of the highlights of the day was the presentation of the the Paul Quinn Memorial Award. This award is given to an individual who has donated their time and service to the school over the years.

The recipient of this year's Paul Quinn Memorial Award was The Timothy School's physical education teacher, Missy Mundy!

As Sarah Greim stated, "Missy's volunteerism and dedication to the school made her the natural choice for this year's award during our final golf outing. Congratulations to Missy and thank you for all you've done, and continue to do, for The Timothy School!"
