Let the back-to-school shopping begin. The sales-tax holiday for school supplies runs until Aug. 11 and applies to most school supplies, clothing, footwear, learning aids, and personal technology. Most Florida schools start the 2024-2025 school year on Aug. 12.

Summer for All legislation introduced in the Senate

The new federal legislation aims to help provide high-quality summer enrichment opportunities to all children, youth and families, and especially those who could not afford or access these programs otherwise. The Summer for All Act (fact sheetbill text) would provide long-term, direct funding to program providers to increase access to high-quality summer programs and activities.

Before reporting to New York Jets' training camp, Johnson returned to his alma mater to host a summer youth camp at FSU's Dunlap Athletic Training Center. Over a hundred children, ages six to thirteen, attended the one-day camp.

Rail Innovation in Action is a new virtual program created in partnership with Lemelson-MIT all about exploring and developing innovations in rail transportation. No prior knowledge of railroading is necessary- all students need is curiosity and a passion for innovation.

Youth value voice, preparing for the future, and making a difference in afterschool

More than 9 in 10 youth report that they feel respected, are listened to, and trust the adults in their afterschool programs, according to research released by Every Hour Counts. Acting in leadership positions, working on social justice, and learning how to manage money were among the activities young people ranked as most meaningful in their programs. Moreover, nearly 60% reported that their afterschool program “improved their life” very much or quite a bit.

Santa Barbara Middle School has partnered with Apples to Zucchini Cooking School to bring an appetizing "course" to their curious kids. The summer cooking camp provides hands-on classes where kids can learn knife skills, how to select produce, how to build flavors, and how to customize recipes.

Teen Science Cafe Fellows- 2024-2025

The Teen Science Cafe (TSC) Fellows initiative is a ten-month training program designed to help informal educators implement Teen Science Cafes in their community. Teen Science Cafe Fellows receive one-on-one support from TSC Guides to launch a cafe program and host three cafe events during the year. Fellows receive a $2,500 stipend to support their work!

Adult Recess Activities for Self-regulation

Managing Common Illnesses to Support Healthy Learning Environments

The beginning of the school year often means cold and flu season is also upon us. Germs and bacteria can cause small or large disruptions in early childhood programs. It is important to look out for common signs and symptoms of illness and know what to do next. Child care health consultants (CCHCs) help staff understand and prevent infectious disease. By writing policies, reviewing practical steps, and offering training, CCHCs can make sure that program staff have the information they need to maintain healthy learning environments.
