Q: What is your favorite course you have taken in the college?
My favorite course is Fiction and Development, PSY 4613, with Dr. Jennifer Barnes. Dr. Barnes is an amazing professor whose passion for fictional stories and developmental research is truly inspiring. I've learned so much about the impacts of fiction on the development of humans simply through reading research. I look forward to attending this class because of the stress-free environment that Dr. Barnes is able to create through meaningful discussions. This class has provided me with knowledge I know I can take into any of my future endeavors!
Q: What do you love about the college?
I absolutely love the people within the Dodge Family College of Arts and Sciences. As a Withrow Leadership Scholar, I have been able to see the diversity within our college and am amazed at the wide range of passions that each student holds. I feel like I am constantly learning about a major or a scientific/humanistic perspective that I had never considered before. The faculty, staff and students within the college continuously show care and support for one another!
Q: What led you to choose your current degree plan?
I did not come to OU with my current degree plan, but circumstances led me into having to make a change. I chose psychology and sociology because I have always been interested in people, their motivations and their relationships. I found that the classes sparked curiosity and a desire to continue learning in me. Beyond that, this degree plan will help me pursue my passion of reducing the stigma around mental health in marginalized communities as well as providing resources to under-served populations. I plan to invest in my community and my degree plan leads me to fulfill that plan.
Q: How are you prioritizing yourself during this busy semester?
I always set time within the week that I spend on what I need most, whether that's alone time or spending quality time with my friends and family. When things get hectic, this pre-determined time helps me through the stress. I also keep a bullet journal that I make sure to update each week. This helps me manage my time and have a balance between academics, extracurriculars and personal matters.
