Welcome to the inaugural edition of The Spark - WE-SPARK Health Institute’s newsletter!
WE-SPARK celebrated its official launch on March 9
th
with leaders from the University of Windsor, St. Clair College, Windsor Regional Hospital and Hôtel-Dieu Grace Healthcare signing a Memorandum of Understanding creating this one-of-kind partnership. You can read about our celebration in

INTRODUCING WE-SPARK GRANTS
|
|
WE-SPARK is increasing our competitiveness in major granting competitions with our new
WE-SPARK Grants Program
. This program will ensure that there are dedicated grant opportunities to support local health researchers at all stages of their career.
|
|
Our
WE-SPARK Incentive Grant Program
supports health research projects that have been unsuccessful towards recent external National/ International health funding competition and will be resubmitted to subsequent application rounds.
|
|
|
In response to COVID-19, WE-SPARK created a
COVID-19 Rapid Response Grant
. Open to Primary Applicants at any of our WE-SPARK partner institutions (University of Windsor, St. Clair College, Windsor Regional Hospital and Hôtel-Dieu Grace Healthcare), we received 26 applications ranging from designing Personal Protective Equipment, to optimizing rapid detection of COVID-19, to examining the psychological and physical impact of the pandemic. $143,000 was awarded to local projects - $79,000 from WE-SPARK and $64,000 in matching funds from University of Windsor, Office of Research and Innovation. Core Membership
provides access to seminar series and educational opportunities, listings of funding and research opportunities and are eligible for exclusive grants and proposals supported by WE-SPARK. You will also be profiled on our website.
Affiliate Members
are reserved for researchers who indirectly support health research and are associated with health research or healthcare, and for post-secondary students in any discipline. Students will also get volunteer experience through participation in educational opportunities in the community.
Community Members
are individuals or organizations interested in the Windsor-Essex health landscape.
Ambassador
membership is for organizations or individuals that provide a donation and/or support.

Windsor-Essex is known for its partnerships and community connections. At WE-SPARK Health Institute, collaboration is at the heart of everything we do. Our collaboration
platform aims to provide a hub that can respond to health problems in our community, connect people with particular areas of expertise and organize, share and track information for teams and projects.
