THE SPARK
Highlighting outstanding donor and volunteer impact
throughout Center For Family Services.

Fun in the Sun, Thanks to You

Your generous donations made a huge difference for a young person living in a safe home this summer! While they may be experiencing a difficult time in their lives, a child living in a safe home is still just that –a child.

The outpouring of support for summer activities allowed a child to experience a true New Jersey childhood summer, including:

  • A trip down the shore
  • Carnival rides on the boardwalk
  • A water park excursion day
  • Nice, sit-down dinners out with their peers at the safe home
  • A first trip to the bowling alley
  • Experiencing a movie in a theater
  • And more

The summer isn’t over as long as the weather is nice, so there are still plans for more activities like visiting Six Flags Great Adventure, made possible only because of donors like you.

Thank you for allowing a child to have fun and feel special this summer!

Scholastic Support

For a child living in a safe home, the return to school can be daunting and uncertain.

You can make a difference with your monetary donation to Project Backpack.

Preparing for the school year will be easier and more exciting with your support. Your donation of $10, $20, $50, or $100+ will go directly toward purchasing the exact items and school supplies needed including a backpack, uniforms, and supplies for a child’s specific classroom.

Every dollar makes a difference for a young person in need.

Thank you for supporting academic success in your community!

Cultural Heritage Commissions

Empower Creativity

The Cape May County & Gloucester County Cultural Heritage Commissions made creativity blossom at the Oasis, Tranquility, and Together safe homes. Your generous grants provided the resources to bring the arts to teenagers living in the care of safe homes.

Because of this funding, teens were able to add the element of art to their counseling plan, which is a wonderful tool for processing big emotions, changes, and anxieties. Some special events that the teenagers participated in include:

  • Two “Paint and Snack” events –one led by an artist from RZA Art Studio, and one led by a counselor with a BA in Fine Arts. The teenagers loved having their own canvas and paints, but loved the creative freedom as well.
  • An interactive presentation on how journaling can make a positive impact on your mind, body, and soul. The teens were also given their own journals, cozy socks, and colored pens to use during this event so they can practice journaling on their own.
  • A scrapbooking event in which the teens learned how to express themselves using photos and mementos.
  • A poetry workshop hosted to inform the kids about another way to use creative expression as an outlet for their feelings.

There are more art events planned for the future because the teenagers living in safe homes enjoyed the new avenues of art and self-expression. Now that they have an understanding of art and how it can positively influence their mood, the kids use these tools both alone and in groups to pass the time, reflect inward, discover new creative ideas, and connect with peers.

Thank you for the crucial gift of art therapy for teenagers in your community.

Partners of Promise

A tremendous thank you goes out to the newest Annual Corporate Sponsors:

Thank you for joining the ranks of our growing list of Annual Corporate Sponsors:

Annual Corporate Sponsorships provide excellent recognition and exposure for sponsors, and provide upfront funds for yearly events and campaigns. These important funds allow staff to know that donations are secured in advance, giving them the ability to purchase school supplies, holiday gifts, and more when families and children are in need.

Thank you for allowing the ability to focus on coordinating and executing successful events and campaigns. Because of you, children and families are well taken care of.

Soroptimists Support SERV

The SERV (Services Empowering Rights of Victims) program received a generous donation from the Soroptimist International of Cumberland County!

SERV was honored at a luncheon for the work they do to provide trauma services to survivors of sexual violence, domestic violence, and human trafficking - particularly women and girls in the Cumberland County community.

Thank you for this honor and donation!

Congratulations to the recent graduates of PowerCorps and Recovery Corps!

Your contributions as AmeriCorps members will have a lasting impact on the green infrastructure in Camden City, and on the community of individuals who are seeking support in entering a life of recovery. You should be proud of all you accomplished during your service!

RWJ Barnabus Health Cares

Staff at multiple RWJ Barnabas Health locations joined together to collect and donate items that are critical for the safety and comfort of people in communities across New Jersey. Thanks to your dedication, backpacks filled with personal hygiene necessities are accessible for folks experiencing challenging circumstances.

Thank you for your dedication to uplifting others!

Hoops at HomeBase

The young men staying at the HomeBase safe home will be receiving a new basketball court, thanks to the support of Camden Home For Children.

HomeBase serves young men ages 16-20 and it is important that they have a physical outlet. Fortunately, a thoughtful grant from Camden Home For Children will allow the current, outdated and uneven court to be replaced with one that is smooth and new. The teens and young adults living at HomeBase are thrilled for the update, and it will allow them to spend more time outside in the nice, fresh air.

Thank you for supporting the young folks in Camden County!

Mentoring Matters

We are proud to recognize Marshall M., one of the dedicated mentors serving in the Mercer County area. Since 2021, Marshall has been a mentor to three different young people, showing them patience and kindness that is incredibly noteworthy. Marshall keeps up with each of these young people, providing support to one of them who is navigating toxic relationships, being a motivator to another who was working toward a GED, and being an affirming, supportive voice for his mentee who is transgender and working on her mental health.

Marshall shares his love of hiking and using physical activity as a way to regain stability and counter depression for the young adults he mentors. He’s been a steady presence as his mentees endure changes in their living situations and experience increased independence and responsibility.

One of Marshall’s mentees said that he encourages her to communicate with people, and to explore music, drawing, writing and other types of art. She said that he is great at noticing when she is upset, is always able to cheer her up, and is considerate of her feelings. As an active listener, he brings so many positive qualities to his role as a mentor, not shying away from challenges or difficult conversations.

Marshall is an outstanding example of how one caring, dedicated adult can make a difference in the life of a teenager (or three). Thank you, Marshall for your commitment to uplifting young people in need!

A Pulse on Service

It’s exciting to see the impact of volunteers from Cooper Medical School at Rowan University during the Premedical Urban Leaders Summer Enrichment (PULSE) program. Thank you for your work on a six-week project to respond to the needs of the residents of Camden City. Your service improves the health and wellness of residents and will last a lifetime.

We appreciate your hard work and dedication to giving back!

Caring Community Volunteers

Thank you to interns at both TD Bank and Hikma for participating in volunteer projects this summer!

Your help provided Healing Through Arts Kits and gave a much-needed refresh to one of our safe homes. You sparked hope and provided the tools for healing for young people who have experienced trauma.

Your impact will be felt long after your internships are complete!
