Healthy Smile Learning

We partnered with AZPBSkids to launch healthysmilelearning.org, a FREE resource site in both English and Spanish for parents, caregivers, children and teachers featuring family friendly videos, resources and classroom curriculum focused on oral health. The user-friendly site offers information on a wide range of topics, including videos and tips to prepare children for visiting the dentist; best bets for brushing and flossing directly from a registered dental hygienist; nutrition and oral health; and the connection between oral health and overall health.

Going Green with Electronic Grant Applications

We are committed to sustainability by going green! On September 6, we launched our 2024 Community Program Grant cycle for non-profit organizations that work with underserved populations of all ages through oral health and nutritional programs. What’s new this year is that we streamlined the application process by making it accessible online, eliminating the need for word documents, fillable PDFs and formatting struggles. The application deadline is October 12, and we are pleased to share that so far 86 non-profit organizations have registered for the online platform.

Grantee Spotlight

MHC (Marana Health Center) Healthcare is the longest serving community health center in Arizona, providing continuous health care since its incorporation in 1957. The Dental Department, which makes dental care comfortable, accessible and affordable, is home to the Comprehensive Dental Care for Uninsured Children program. This program, supported with Foundation grant funds, provides full dental care for children without dental insurance and is run by Dr. Vijay Patel, Dental Director.

Volunteer Spotlight

Tammra Laurent is a Sales Analyst who has been with Delta Dental of Arizona for five years. She started as a Customer Service Representative and was awarded Customer Service Representative of the Year for 2020, before moving into her current role as a Sales Analyst in 2021 where she provides ongoing support for the Small Business Unit. Laurent embodies our values of care and service on a regular basis. In 2019, Tammra was awarded Delta Dental of Arizona Volunteer of the Year for the most volunteer hours of any employee.

Board Member Spotlight

Jessica Yanow is the president and chief executive officer for the Arizona Alliance for Community Health Centers (AACHC) and Collaborative Ventures Network. In addition to a Bachelor of Arts in anthropology and a Master of Public Health in community health practice, Yanow is certified in federal grants management by Management Concepts. She is a member of the Arizona Public Health Association and participated in Valley Leadership’s inaugural Catalyst class of 2022.
