Hello Film Fans!

The Dog Days of Summer are here and the Sie FilmCenter proves to be the perfect refuge! We've got two psychological films opening on Friday, Dark Places, based on a novel by Gillian Flynn (Gone Girl), stars Charlize Theron and The Falling, which takes place in an English girls' school in 1969 where an unusual outbreak of fainting spells occurs. Rounding out the week, we are opening The Look of Silence,  the followup to last year's Oscar nominated doc The Act of Killing. 

Some special screenings to tell you about: Kurt Cobain: Montage of Heck is an intimate portrait that draws on never-before-seen footage. It plays Saturday at 7:30pm. Tuesday at 7:30pm filmmaker Brigid Maher presents her film, The Mama Sherpas in-person, a reception starts at 6:30pm. Wednesday night we screen two short films about cycling in France: La Reine Bicyclette - A History Of France And Bikes and Tour de France. Jonathan Vaughters, manager of the Boulder-based Cannondale-Garmin cycling team will host a Q&A following the screenings which begin at 7pm.

On Thursday August 13th we kick-off of our series Westerns of the Golden Age with the John Ford classic Stagecoach at 7pm. The best way to prepare for these screenings is our Westerns 101 class on Sunday August 9th taught by MSU associate professor Vincent Piturro. Yee-haw!

One last note: Cop Car opens Aug 14th and on Aug 15th we welcome the director and Colorado native Jon Watts (and, oh yeah he'll be directing the new Spider-Man film!). Stay tuned for details.
