“One ship drives east and the other drives west

With the selfsame winds that blow.

‘Tis the set of the sails, and not the gales

Which tells us the way to go.”

Dear JPB Friends & Family,

Anticipation. Apprehension. Determination. Gratitude. These are just some of the emotions motivating the exceptional 100 youth, educators, and staff currently preparing themselves to participate in Jerusalem Peacebuilders’ (JPB) five interfaith youth-leadership and teacher-training institutes during July and August. Theirs will be no ordinary summer.

Both in and outside the Holy Lands, we equip high school teachers and youth to be leaders and peacebuilders as only JPB can, through experiential education, dialogue, travel, and religious literacy. At each stage, alumni, volunteers, and staff challenge them to apply their talents for the greater good of all. From law to medicine, from inter-communal healing to education, engineering and technology, our graduates discover the power to advance positive change. Tis the set of the sails, and not the gales, which tells us the way to go.

The same holds true for your gift to Jerusalem Peacebuilders.

Israeli Jews and Palestinian Arabs have never been more divided. Relentless violence and fear continue to shatter the lives of millions. Yet rather than surrender to the rage and resignation enthralling their societies, JPB participants are charting another course. They will travel to Great Britain, the United States, and Switzerland not to escape the dangers of war but to wrestle deeply with its complex causes. Tis the set of the sails, and not the gales, which tells us the way to go.

At a very stormy time, your support will empower these emerging skippers to set their sails upwind toward opportunity, equality, and peace. We invite you to partner with us in the three Summer Institutes still in need of funding:

  • EXCEL Teacher-Training Institute in Cambridge University, England. Help us offer this advanced program for Israeli Arab and Jewish high school educators that prepares participants to lead peacebuilding in their classrooms as well as joint-education for Arabic-speaking and Hebrew-speaking schools. Estimated Cost: $40,000

  • Youth Leadership Institutes in Houston, TX and New Haven, CT. Help us offer these two programs that launch leadership formation for Israeli Jewish, Palestinian Arab, and American youth through service, sport, dialogue, and religious literacy in coordination with local congregations and social service organizations. Estimated Combined Cost: $100,000

These brave 100 youth, educators and staff need your love, prayers, and generosity. At a time when terror and ultra-nationalism threaten to plunge the Holy Lands into endless war, your generosity will set their sails toward opportunity, equality, and peace. Tis the set of the sails, and not the gales, which tells us the way to go.

Peace, שלום ,سلام,

JPB Board Feeds the Hungry in Gaza

To honor Holy Week and Easter in Gaza, where civilians are starving, JPB board members provided meals for Gazans — vegetarian pizzas on Good Friday, falafel at the Latin Church and at the Orthodox Church, and on Easter Sunday, 500 chicken dinners. The interfaith staff at the nearby Ahli Anglican Hospital were fed as well.
