A Note from Scott and Marsha
May 23, 2019
Remember all those times I wrote about the rain? Or how about when I wrote about the cold AND the rain for a solid year? How about we do a complete 180 and I write about the fact that we have had no rain for a solid week and it has been hot as *&#%. Seriously??? Mind you, last Tuesday morning it was 47 and we contemplated having to bring the tropicals inside "just in case". I have no words.

I do have words for this guy, Josh. I wrote about him celebrating his 40th birthday and how thankful we are for him.  But now I write about him through the eyes of children who confirmed my suspicion.

Twin boys, around 4 years old, were shopping with their mom in the Garden Center. Josh happens upon them at the check-out counter and one little guy looks up wide-eyed and asks, "Are you a gnome?"

Josh ponders for a minute and replies, "Maybe."

The little boys stare, their wheels turning, and one proceeds to ask, "Do you live here?"

Josh smiles and says, "Did you see the little fairy house in the wheel barrow?"

They both nod emphatically.

Josh smiles and says, "Don't tell anyone. It will be our little secret."

I can't even handle the cuteness of this. Not only did Josh totally roll with it, he let these two little boys in on a secret. A SECRET! Do you know these little boys are NEVER ever going to forget this? They are going to grow up forever remembering THAT garden center with the gorgeous flowers, koi fish, alpaca, goats, chickens and a living, breathing gnome who lives in a fairy garden! Best. Place. Ever. Okay, so they probably won't grow up remembering the gorgeous flowers, BUT they will remember this cool place with a fairy garden and a gnome who shared a secret.

Hands down. We work with the coolest people EVER. Not only are they brilliant, they are creative.  And they want to help you bring green home WHILE entertaining your kids. All we need now is ice cream.  Scott? Can I start an ice cream division?   People...I am gonna need some support with this!
BUTTERFLY BUSH
As the name suggests, butterflies absolutely love a butterfly bush. Varieties like 'Miss Molly' will grow up to 5' tall, or dwarf varieties like 'Pugster Pink' will grow to about 2' tall. We have blooms in purple, white, and pink. The butterflies will thank you, and you will thank the butterflies for visiting your garden. :)
ECHINACAE
Echinacea, also known as coneflower, is a favorite of butterflies and other pollinators. We have many varieties and colors of echinacae. They tolerate our hot summers like a boss. Spent flowers are also enjoyed by birds who will eat the seeds. Coneflowers are great cut flowers as well.
LANTANA
We featured lantana last week for its heat and drought tolerant qualities. Did you know that butterflies also love lantana? This Sunrise Rose variety boasts lots of bloom and color. Or choose 'Miss Huff"--a perennial variety that will make an appearance year after year should we avoid a nasty winter.
NEW!! FRESH PRODUCE AND EGGS!
F ARM DUDE FARMS will be here this Saturday, May 25th. Josh, our beloved "gnome", is the Farm Dude. This Saturday he will be at the Garden Center selling fresh produce from his farm in Pittsboro. You can't get much more local than that! He will have Sugar Peas, Snap Peas, Beets, Carrots and Eggs! Come shop local and fresh!
