Did you know May is both National Pet Month and National Mental Health Awareness Month? It's no wonder, since pets have such a major influence on our well-being. Out in the community, Valley Humane's Canine Comfort Pet-Assisted Therapy teams share the healing power of pets, but you can bring the same benefits home by adopting a cat or dog of your own or volunteer to foster an adoptable animal. Either way, there's no better time to welcome a loving pet into your life! Our newly redesigned website is brimming with adorable cats and dogs just waiting for their new homes. Plus, with a calendar full of exciting events this month, there are countless opportunities to connect with fellow animal lovers and make a difference. There's a reason Valley Humane is "Your Means to a Friend!" We can't wait to see you there, spreading compassion and joy wherever you go!
Celebrating a Year of Compassionate Care
It's hard to believe that a year has passed since the grand opening of our Phil Scholz Veterinary Surgery Center on May 6, 2023. In this short time, our team has performed more than 7000 procedures and surgeries, benefiting animals all across the Bay Area. It's made a profound impact—countless lives have been saved and transformed. We're excited to continue making a difference this year and beyond. A heartfelt thank you to our incredible staff, volunteers, and generous donors who made this much-needed resource a reality, providing a vital service to cats, dogs, and shelters throughout northern California.

Compassion in Action: The Medical Assistance Fund
Help ensure furry friends gets the vital medical attention they deserve. When you contribute to Valley Humane Society’s Medical Assistance Fund, your generosity directly breaks down financial barriers to lifesaving care for cats and dogs. The fund empowers Valley Humane to rescue animals in critical condition who need care beyond the services of our own Phil Scholz Veterinary Surgery Center. It also supports families by providing access to essential soft-tissue surgeries for their beloved pets, sparing them heart-wrenching decisions brought on by financial constraints. Together, we can make sure that the cost of urgently needed care does not impede any animal's chance to thrive. Make a tax-deductible gift to the Medical Assistance Fund today, and join us in this compassionate mission!

Foster Homes: Where Compassion Lives
Foster families give temporary homes to cats and dogs awaiting adoption, providing compassionate care and expanding Valley Humane Society's capacity to save lives. Fosters also prepare pets for adoption, give animals time to heal, and provide loving socialization. Valley Humane is regularly on the lookout for families to become fosters.
As a foster family, you'll receive all necessary supplies and training, along with ongoing guidance and support. RSVP to attend our Foster Families Workshop on May 23 at 5 pm to learn more and get started. Help to create brighter futures for animals, one loving foster home at a time!

Kitten Season is here, with new litters arriving in local shelters every day. Kittens with mothers, however, do much better when they can all stick together. In the spring and summer, we often encounter the kittens of stray or feral cats. Before taking action to rescue these babies, please pause and observe. Watch for the mother's return; she's likely out securing provisions or finding their next cozy hideout. Give Mama Cat at least 12 hours before intervening. These early days are critical for the kittens' wellbeing, and there's no substitute for mom! Learn more about Kitten Season and Kitnapping on our YouTube channel.
