Are you excited to go to your practice each morning?
Do you get to do the kind of work you love doing?
Do you get to use your strengths?
“The essential ingredient for a successful life is the opportunity to engage your Passion in the pursuit of a PURPOSE that is personally meaningful!”
— Dr. Mike Schuster
So, what’s your purpose? Is it finding out what your patient's purpose is and helping them fulfill it within your scope of dentistry, or the work you enjoy doing? Is it solving complex problems? Is it getting your practice to become profitable? Could it be trying to survive in a competitive, insurance-heavy environment?
Before you can discover your patient's purpose, it is essential to tailor your office, environment, flow, schedule, and offerings around your purpose!
Your business purpose may be different from your personal purpose, but when they align… it can be magical!
When the doctor’s personal purpose aligns with their business purpose, it can drive their motivation, focus, and overall success. Very often, your purpose will be an outcome of your values. When a person's personal values align with the values of their business, they are more likely to be motivated and passionate about their work. This can drive the doctor to work harder, devote more energy, work smarter and attract others around them to achieve greater success.
When their personal purpose is aligned with their business purpose, they are more likely to set ambitious and meaningful goals that are in line with their overall purpose.
When a doctor’s personal purpose and practice purpose align, you see them more often embody their leadership role and perform it from a different center — their heart. These doctors approach their team as an invested group, a board of directors if you will, and can create something greater than their own purpose and vision — they create shared purpose and vision.
A clearly stated and shared purpose of the dental office is critically important to its success! A clear purpose defines the direction of the office and helps it to focus its efforts toward achieving specific goals. This ensures that everyone in the office is aligned and working toward a common objective.
Team members are more likely to be motivated and engaged when they feel that they are working toward a meaningful purpose and not just a cog in a wheel, or working hard for the doctor alone to win. A strong sense of purpose can help to attract and retain talented people who share the same values and goals as the office.
Dental offices with a clear purpose are more likely to be innovative and creative in their approach to problem solving. They are better able to identify new opportunities and develop innovative solutions that align with their purpose.
A clear purpose helps to build trust with patients, team members, and your community such as referral sources and more. When your dental office is transparent about its purpose and values, you will attract those who believe what you believe.
When an office has a clear purpose, it is easier to make decisions that align with that purpose. This ensures that all decisions are made in the best interests of the office and its stakeholders.
The purpose of a dental office is essential to its success. It provides direction, motivates employees, drives innovation, builds trust with stakeholders, and improves decision making. Offices that have a strong sense of purpose are more likely to succeed in the long term.
