Rachel Jewell, PhD

April 29th, 2024

It is my great pleasure to announce to you that Rachel Jewell, now Dr. Jewell, successfully defended her dissertation last Friday. Her dissertation was titled “Mental health of emergent adults living with type I diabetes in Canada: aggregated national survey 2009-2019” and her supervisor was Dr. Gorey.  Please join me in celebrating this momentous occasion as a new chapter unfolds for one of our most respected member of the academy.

Sincerely,

Correction to News Story, Eliane Piccoli

In the March newsletter story highlighting Eliane Piccoli, BSW student, there was a spelling error in her Eliane's last name. Our apologies for the error.

Updates from Sharon Munro,

Social Work Librarian

New archivist at the Leddy Library

The Leddy Library now has a second Archivist – Antoinette Seymour. As noted in the news events for Leddy Library, she “…joined the team in the Leddy Library this semester from Nassau, Bahamas and brings with her a wealth of experience, passion for archives, and a commitment to the recently established Black Studies Institute.” She is a graduate of the University of Windsor. She has also started a blog with a fascinating introductory piece about herself and about Black student life at the University of Windsor.

International Transgender Day of Visibility – library resources

March 31st was the International Transgender Day of Visibility which is “…dedicated to recognizing the resilience and accomplishments of the transgender community.” The Leddy Library has put together a list of library materials that have been chosen to “…profile transgender community voices and experiences.” For more information, see: International Transgender Day of Visibility

Historic Francophone newspaper at the Leddy Library

The Leddy Library has received a large donation of almost forty years of Le Rempart, a local French-language newspaper, from Denis Poirier, publisher and proprietor. The Leddy Library will be digitizing the back issues from 1966 to 2003 and will make them freely accessible online. The hard copies of the newspaper will be donated to the Leddy Library’s Archives & Special Collections. Sarah Glassford, University of Windsor Archivist notes that “Newspapers are enormously valuable as primary sources because they offer unique windows into the communities they serve… The duration of Le Rempart’s publication makes it especially valuable, as it tracks the unfolding history of the community it serves during decades of major social and cultural change.”
