Happy Summer, SFX!

I hope everyone is enjoying a safe and exciting summer to this point. I know June certainly brought the heat here in the Valley so whether you're in town or out of town I hope you're staying cool and staying safe.

Last week we wrapped up a very successful summer school. Big thanks to Mrs. Sheedy for organizing and all our staff who participated. We were blessed to have a few recent alumni also return to support our summer school programming. It was great to see so many staff and students on our campus.

As we near the midpoint of our summer break, I want to check in with a few reminders and updates. Within the Howl you will find our updated Family Handbook. Please make sure you review this before school starts.

We're also excited to announce that we're moving to a new student information system, FACTS. While we enjoyed utilizing Gradelink we believe this change is going to benefit students, families, and staff.

As soon as it is ready to go on our end, we will let you know so you can access the platform and familiarize yourself with everything it has to offer prior to the start of the school year. Our goal is to send you information about how to login by mid-July.

I miss hearing those Friday howls in "The Sullivan" but know that after a nice summer break we will all be fired up for a great start to our 24-25 school year. Build it up and enjoy a safe rest of your summer. Looking forward to seeing you in early August!

We are excited to announce that we will now be using FACTS as our Student Information System instead of Gradelink. We are in the process of setting up the Family Portal where you will be able to access your student's grades, schedules, etc.

You will also be able to order your student's lunches, view the school calendar, and access the school directory. It will be connected to your FACTS tuition account as well. We will no longer be using Meal Manage for ordering lunches. We're hoping this will help streamline things for parents as you will be able to manage most things through the FACTS Family Portal.

Please click on the video below for an overview of the Family Portal. The password to watch is: Portal (case sensitive).

We will be providing you with information on how to log-in in mid-July so you will have time to familiarize yourself with the new system. We'll also continue to provide resources to help you navigate the new system as well.

Staff Update

We are excited to announce some important staffing news. This school year we will be working with two experienced and outstanding counselors. We welcome back Mrs. Susie Garlick and welcome Mrs. Mary Wilson to our SFX community.

While both will work collaboratively and in tandem, Mrs. Garlick will be primarily focused on parent support/guidance/partnership, and Mrs. Wilson will primarily focus on student support and classroom social and emotional learning.

Both counselors will be working collaboratively with staff and our community as a whole to support mental and emotional health on our campus. We are blessed to have Mrs. Garlick and Mrs. Wilson working in these roles for the upcoming school year!

Welcome Back Mass & Meet the Teacher

On Sunday, August 4th we'd like to invite all SFX families to join us for a Welcome Back Family Mass at 9:00 am in the Church. Following Mass, families are welcome to stop by campus for coffee, donuts and milk. Students will have a chance to briefly meet their teacher and see their classroom.

New Parent Retreat

Welcome new families! We are so happy you are part of the SFX community. We look forward to seeing you at the New Parent Retreat on Thursday, August 22nd from 4:45-6:00 pm.

The retreat welcomes new members into our community and provides time to pray and introduce new families to the mission and philosophy of St. Francis Xavier School. We will also reflect on our Jesuit heritage and spirituality and explore how they affect the education and culture at SFX.

Attendance is mandatory for at least one parent from each new family (this event is for parents only). Please RSVP here.

Calling all Volunteers

Get involved in the 24-25 School Year!

We have many opportunities for parents to get involved on campus. Please take a look at this Volunteer Interest Form and let us know if you're interested in helping with something! Please make sure you also read the Volunteer Handbook as well.

Track your hours in FACTS! Parents can track their volunteer hours in the Family Portal. Please remember that each family is asked to volunteer 30 hours over the course of the year.

Every year on July 1st, the Safe Environment renewal process opens up for parents and all volunteers for the upcoming school year. Please set aside time between now and the beginning of school to renew your status.

**Remember that to volunteer in any capacity or attend a classroom event, The Diocese of Phoenix requires that you be up to date on your Safe Environment Training**

Click here to access your account. All new volunteers need to complete the foundations class, and returning volunteers need to complete the renewal class.

If you have trouble logging in to the system, you may have been "archived." Any user who has lapsed after a certain amount of time becomes archived. Please email Anne Sanford to restore your account.

All DENNIS and Tommy Hilfiger information can be found on the school's website on The Wolf Den page.

**New at Tommy Hilfiger - Tommy will now offer an approved selection of outerwear including jackets and sweaters for both boys and girls.

This year, we are excited to be using our St. Francis Xavier Ignatian Coat of Arms on some of our apparel and merchandise.

What are the meanings of the symbols on our Coat of Arms? On the left of the shield are the wolves and kettles which represent the generosity of the Ignatian family to the poor. On the right are the three Greek letters Iota, Eta and Sigma (IHS) which are the first three letters of the name of Jesus in Greek. IHS is under a cross and over the heart of Jesus. Just above the heart are three lines representing the three nails of the Crucifixion. At the bottom of the shield, the Jesuits motto is inscribed in a ribbon A.M.D.G. - Ad Majorem Dei Gloriam which translated means - For the Greater Glory of God.
