Dear Trinity siblings in Christ,
What an action-packed few months! School is out. Our family was on the road on my “off” Sundays the third and fourth weekends of June, first for a family reunion and then for a trip to upstate New York where I officiated at a wedding (and even a baptism!). Our oldest daughter is a high school graduate and summer schedules are upon us.
Trinity has welcomed a wonderful Priest in Charge; thanks be to God! It is a joy and privilege to serve with the Rev. Matt Lindeman. Thank you, Vestry, for rounding out Team Trinity with such a great captain to steer this ship! The Episcopal Church has a new Presiding Bishop, Bishop Sean Rowe from Pennsylvania, who by all accounts is also a solid spiritual leader and human being. What a blessing to enjoy excellent leadership at the helm, both here in Southport AND across the larger church.
Leadership is on all our minds these days, and Rev. Matt gave us great advice to keep praying. While contemporary culture won’t necessarily reward prayer and believing in the power of miracles, this is a time in our nation’s life when miraculous change and constant prayer is in order. To that end, here is the Prayer for Our Country we used in last Sunday’s service and will again this Sunday. It is worthy of daily repetition, and may be found on page 820 of the Book of Common Prayer.
As was announced this past Sunday, while Rev. Matt is on vacation, my regular schedule will continue: “on duty” the first three Sundays of the month of July, and in the office on Tuesdays. My vacation will begin July 29 (the anniversary of the ordination of the Philadelphia Eleven, the first eleven women made priests in the Episcopal Church in the United States) and end August 29. I will return to the office on Tuesday, September 3.
In the meantime, I look forward to seeing you this Sunday at 8am at the beach and 10am in church.
Independence Day blessings to all,
